noping, FXSTC, 610 problems are supposedly a result of a poorly written, hard coded, non-upgradeable BIOS, and a "slower internal video processing engine". The 611 is a better implementation of this, but has caveats too. The 612 seems to handle video pretty well, but I have seen tiling and freezing occasionally, I suspect this is a headend problem, not the ONT.
I guess not unlike like a directX 7 video card, in a directX 11 world. All the latest software drivers they can write, no matter how complex, won't speed the inferior hardware processor up, or make it compatible with todays technology. I also notice that my 610 failed in February, noping's failed in March, is this a cold weather related problem? If these things are not temperature stable, and most people I know only have had the TV installed in the last 3-4 months(winter), I would hate to see what the 610's do in HOT weather !!
My biggest question I had for the techs that replaced MY 610, was what do you do with them when they go bad. Do they just get tossed in the dumpster back at the garage?
Do the VZ managers use them as doorstops?
Can you use them to chock the wheels of your van if you park on a hill?
Do you donate them to the local Little League baseball team to use as bases??
They weren't sure where they go. They must be an ONT heaven, right???
Well, after what it put me through, I hope mine went to ONT hell !
Not so much concerned about truckloads of 610's goin' to the landfill, but will they start having them refurbished, upgraded, and re-issued? The 611-612 upgrades are nice, but must cost Verizon a fortune. They might start sticking their data only customers with Refurb'd 610's, as it handles data and phone fine, and save the 611's and 612's for video installs.
I would hate to see people putting up with refurbished 610 ONT's, the same way as a refurbished alternator, or starter, on your car. Figure, it's not as good as new, chances are they only replaced a small number of standard problem components, and it's destined to fail again sooner than later. BUT, HEY, it's savin' the company lots of money, right? | | KA3SGM - -... ...- - Premium join:2006-01-17 West Chester, PA clubs:

Geek, the whole house is wires in shielded Cat6.
Shielded Cat6 patch panels cost a small fortune, so I wired everything directly to the switches, when I can pick up a nice patch for cheap, everything will find itself in a nice 10U 19" rack, and the only wiring visible will be 18" patch cables.
And yes, it looks ugly, but I have had ZERO network problems(100% uptime), for the past 5 years this setup has been in operation.
Unlike FiOS, MY network is always on.... | | FXSTC
