3Com 3c16116 Superstack III Webcache 3000 & Linux

Hi all,
We were going to throw away an old Superstack III Webcache 3000 that has been replaced by a linux box with Squid when we noticed that inside that box is a standard PC with not too bad specs...

Pentium III 800 MHz
3*128 MB Ram
SCSI card with 2 x 9 GB Cheeta 15 kRPM HD
2 USB ports (hidden by the sticker with the serial number)
1 PCI port
2 IDE ports
1 Compact flash IDE reader
2 NICs fastethernet Intel Etherexpress 100+

With a few efforts it's very easy to recycle this box as a 1U server running linux in your datacenter.

1. Plug a PCI video card and attach a USB keyboard and mouse
2. Boot with a minimal linux system, crack the BIOS with CmosPwd
3. Install your own system

We've put on it a SuSE with software RAID mirroring, serial console and IF bonding. It's pretty good.

Just to let you know.
