Is there a way to make a hard drive not be formatted by a typical windows CD? Just curious....

  redxii too big to fail Premium,Mod join:2001-02-26 Texas | reply to PersComp A Windows CD is just one thing, there is also bootable Linux CDs and bootable partitioning utilities from other companies. No OS can protect you from that, you will need to look into physically securing the hardware. |

If you're in a position to format the drive, you could also overwrite it, delete everything on it, etc., all of which result in the same loss of information.
Why the fixation on 'formatting' in particular?
And under what circumstances?
I actually do follow the 'unplug the cables' advice in some cases - e.g., when working on a PC with multiple disks, and it's imperative I really don't make any typing errors in maintenance programs, then I will disconnect precious disks. -- Microsoft Security MVP, 2005-2007. |
