Re: AppleTV has arrived

PC Mag has a review of the Apple TV up. They seem to like it.

Did you have any trouble setting to 1080i?

I tried changing the rez up to 1080i from 720p and everything went green. I think it does not like that resolution.

No problem with that here, however connecting to a apple express base station is a huge problem for me.

It's using a laptop hard drive?

How lame-sauce!

Also, have you tried hooking anything up to the USB port yet?

Just a follow up on the wireless issue. It appears the AppleTV is more picky on a wireless signal then any of our G4 iBooks, or G5 iMacs.

So even though all computers would connect without an issue, the appleTV did not, so it is more the signal then anything else as far as the problem.

My goal is to run an Ethernet cable back to the TV area, but that is a few weeks off.

Syncing over 802.11g is a long process. It will sync in the following order, Movies, TV Shows, Music, Podcast, photo's. So basically, largest to smallest as typical file size goes.

Once I get some more time, I'll do some more work with this, and report back.

As far an a USB hard drive, I have not attempted that yet, but it is on my list of things to try.

Might be a driver issue rather than a signal issue.

I don't get it. Whats the big deal about this. Seems like an ipod you see on your tv.

Think i'd rather buy sling catcher then this over priced apple product.

Interesting. I would have thought it would use the space for photos first as that is the one thing it can't stream.

So the only reason for the hard drive is so you can turn off your computers?

I believe so, it also helps if the wireless network doesn't work, lol

The streaming works almost instantly, so there is very little difference on watching something from the hard drive, verses streaming.

for this to stream, do you have to have running all of the iphoto's and itunes in the house?

To stream, you just need the computer/iTunes running which you are streaming, NOT all, just the one with the songs/movies.

And Photo's can not be streamed, only synced.

The actual link would be NSFW, but I heard that if one looks for "Olivia Munn Licks an Apple TV" that it might turn up, especially on sites like, oh, let's just choose one at random like egotastic, you know, with the usual suffix added onto it.

After the usual ripping by the Apple employees about a certain company passing on the iPhone I decided to ask if they had any in stock. 2 left.
If they understood the turd of a deal Apple 'offered' that other company, they wouldn't rip you on it. It wouldn't be good business for that other company.

this is completly asnine! Why cannt they make it access like one would a networked drive? There are many ways to address this shit.

This takes away from the elegant design of the Apple TV as part of the living room. So basically, the problem continues as does on my Mini media center with Front row. Im siting down on the couch and I have to get up and go upstairs to the office and load itunes and iphoto on my main system to show pics and listen to music on my main floor. Stupid, absolutly STUPID! I really thought that they would address this in Apple TV.
