Does DHCP work? As in, when you plug in the cable to the switch to an open port, do you get an IP address?

I'm still having difficulty understanding whats going on. Let me tell you what I assume:

- Your computer is connected to the network
- You have an IP Address, DNS, and Gateway address from the router
- When you go to Internet Explorer, you type in any www.whatever.com address but you get nothing
- When you ping yahoo.com, you manage to get the IP address. But when you place address into Internet Explorer, nothing happens.

Am I understanding it fine?
