Can't join a domain when using a westell 6100

I have client who wants to use a Westell Model 6100 - model e90-6100-06 to connect to the internet for their users. However, they want to connect to the Small Business server 2003 domain. I can connect the users to internet but I can't connect to the domain.

Westell uses IP addesses with 192.168.1.x and a gateway of 192.168.1.1. They want to use a Netgear ProSafe VPN FVS318 which has a address starting wiyh 192.168.0.1.

The client machines can ping the SBS 2003 server but when we try to connect, machine (domain) can't be logged into.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Re: Can't join a domain when using a westell 6100

Change the Westell 6100 LAN addresses to something else, say 172.16.1.x. The idea is to avoid an address conflict.

I'm not sure if the address conflict is the only problem, or even it it is a problem at all, but it is worth trying.

Note that after reconfiguring the 6100, you will lose contact with it. Rebooting should fix that.

Re: Can't join a domain when using a westell 6100

I tried to re-configure the router to match the 192.168.1.x scheme of the Netgear router.
Thay was a mess. Now I can't connect to anything as the reset doesn't work with the netgear router.

Re: Can't join a domain when using a westell 6100

Maybe try reconfiguring the 6100 as a bridge, and have the netgear handle PPPoE if that is required.

Many ISPs filter NETBIOS packets, so it is possible that the problem is due to such filtering, rather than to anything the 6100 is doing.
