uh.... their basement show was based on public access tv (out of aurora, illinois) and the movie was about it getting bought out by a corporate giant and making them do stupid ads and other things |

No one is equating their being a skit on SNL to them having a public access channel.
Part of the skit on SNL was that they were shown on a fictional public access channel. It was part of the joke....

Then why is the news saying goodbye to them?
It has nothing to do with verizon eliminating public access channels.
I enjoyed the movie and thier skits on SNL but it has absolutely nothing to do with verizons policy. |

Listen, I'm not trying to be combative or argumentative, but how many times have you seen the front page of BBR and the associate pics Karl posts with them? Heck, You've been a member here longer than I have.
Often, when 2 broadband providers are going head to head, the accompanying shot is of 2 rock 'em sock 'em robots in the ring. Sometimes, when it's a "David vs. Goliath" story, he runs a picture of Rocky in front of the tall Russian boxer from Rocky IV (I think it's IV).
Right now, the story on the front page concerning the world record data transfer is accompanied by a picture of Speed Racer.
None of these photos has anything to do with the actual story. They are subtle attempts to weave a bit of pop culture into the existing story to make the front page of the website more interesting and visual pleasing.
