 | At what cost? I wonder how much AT&T has spent so far installing all the hardware and infrastructure for 10K users? There's got to be a ton of money sitting in all their beige boxes that aren't generating any revenue.
I know in Austin VRAD's have been sitting there for a year in some places and AT&T's saying service to launch 11/07. I haven't see reports from the Verizon area about having such long delays between the time the fiber gets laid in neighborhoods until service is available. |

Ordering, provisioning, billing, and customer service also have to be put in place. The existing telephone systems for this in all the AT&T regions cannot be used for Uverse for various reasons. That means building these systems from the ground up. It takes some time. -- "Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom; it is the arguments of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves." William Pitt the Younger |

I would have to assume that the ordering/provisioning/billing/customer service issues would have been worked on back during the San Antonio release of the system and would all be in place now for the current rollouts.
As for buildouts on the existing telephone systems how much different can this be then what they've been doing all along for DSL and the prior project Pronto plan, remote terminals that aggrated DSL and voice onto SONET back to the CO? Plus they're still using all the good old copper to the premises. Maybe they should ask Verizon how to do this since their FIOS project appears to be moving much more quickly then AT&T and they need to replace the 'last mile' access to the premises. |

jgkoltPremium join:2004-02-21 Lakewood, OH | reply to radougherty actually then do but it seems they don't let the public know ab out it as far in advance or place the boxes out on the lawn so people can complain that it isnt there yet. There is a lot more behind the scenes than you know. If you like they can play mind games and place them there last second and then launch very soon after, would that apease you more? Actually it doesnt matter what a customer things in this situation, just once the service is in place and the service after that. -- www.LakeSemaJ.com |

| reply to Corona I think what radoughtery is getting at is verizon had to go about a very similar process albeit even tougher install and they aren't taking forever to roll this stuff out. | reply to Corona Yeah I bet the telephone unions can't wait to get their people in those call centers all sitting around doing jack. Agents talking all day long to family, boyfriends, girlfriends, anyone except the customers. I never saw soooo much cash wasted until I was a contractor at SBC. Electrical Union has to plug in that computer. No wait can't plug in that network cable... Network union has to do that. Why should we work today when we can goof around on the phones all day. Geesh.
Oh yeah lets not forget how you screwed good engineers during the big layoffs in the 90's. No thanks.
I'll spend my cash for TV, Internet, and PHONE someplace else! Price is not everything if the company you get your services thru treats you and their workers like worthless trash. |

And our DSL systems still have pre-SBC components and tons of chunks of the pre-SBC telcos/logos/web pages in them? And the IP transit backbones of the baby bells havent been merged yet? |
