Re: At what cost?

There is more to getting the service out then just laying in the hardware. Ordering, provisioning, billing, and customer service also have to be put in place. The existing telephone systems for this in all the AT&T regions cannot be used for Uverse for various reasons. That means building these systems from the ground up. It takes some time.
Understatement of the decade.

Yeah I bet the telephone unions can't wait to get their people in those call centers all sitting around doing jack. Agents talking all day long to family, boyfriends, girlfriends, anyone except the customers.
I never saw soooo much cash wasted until I was a contractor at SBC. Electrical Union has to plug in that computer. No wait can't plug in that network cable... Network union has to do that. Why should we work today when we can goof around on the phones all day. Geesh.

Oh yeah lets not forget how you screwed good engineers during the big layoffs in the 90's.
No thanks.

I'll spend my cash for TV, Internet, and PHONE someplace else! Price is not everything if the company you get your services thru treats you and their workers like worthless trash.

I think what radoughtery is getting at is verizon had to go about a very similar process albeit even tougher install and they aren't taking forever to roll this stuff out. Why does at&t have to take their time.
