Is Rogers killing VPN connections?

I was just wondering if this is true, because lately I haven't been able to connect to SecureIX or when I do, I get d/c after like a minute or so.

A friend of mine said it must be Rogers, but I just think it's SecureIX's servers being strained.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

This would imply that it's not at Secureix or Rogers *in some areas*

»SecureIX bandwidth limit

If you have any torrents NOT going through the Secureix proxy

»ssh sessions being killed when running torrents?

Note that Rogers does appear to have been getting the service engines to detect traffic using secure vpn services.

SecureIX has been getting hammered pretty badly recently. Even with the new bandwidth restrictions they are still getting a ton of bandwidth usage.

Rogers keeps disconnecting the vpn connection. I have it on automatic redial but sometimes it won't reconnect, i get a password not recognised message. Eventually i get reconnected but sometimes the VPN is ok but i cannot connect to the internet. Repairing the local area connection helps, but sometimes i have to reboot.
Also , sometimes I get an error message and have to reboot the computer or it reboots itself.
I persevere, and it seems that eventually Rogers gives up and I get my speeds back ( 350+ download, 45 upload).
Really annoying isn't it?

I recommend cycling through the non-firewall servers on secureix, if you can't login. Usually you'll be able to log in on one of the 4 servers.

the servers are
xxx.xxx.xxx.x11
xxx.xxx.xxx.x14
xxx.xxx.xxx.x15
xxx.xxx.xxx.x18

I'll be doing this for the next month, then cancelling my account and likely going with techsavvy.

Your computer reboots itself?

I don't think this is a Rogers issue, I think your computer has an issue.

I figured out that it was SecureIX's servers, because right now I'm testing out the private one and speeds are back to "normal".

This sucks, because in my area, Rogers is the only provider so now I pretty much have to rely on using SecureIX's private servers as well.

[Many] threads here mentions SecureIX as a workaround to the throttling issue. I'd imagine that other boards similarly tout it. So [moderated] the SecureIX servers are being [probably] heavily taxed causing connection/disconnection problems??

I think securix is getting throttled now as well. It not working now and it follows the throttling pattern.

I use secureix premium and it looks to be thottled. Average speed of 200kbs, but very unstable. My regular connection is almost the exact same.

47b/s upload on securix now. Sure looks like throttling to me.

we must be in different Rogers areas because I'm still getting fast speeds on my premium secureix account.

ROGERS is NOT responsible in all cases for throttling ...

**** SECUREIX is now limiting free accounts to 50kbps ****

If you want to go faster you gotta pay!

You probably can't blame Rogers for this.

And other free VPN's and tunneling services are going to be soon follow suite.

It was bound to happen sooner or later with the way people were abusing them. Frankly I thought it would sooner than it did.

Re: ROGERS is NOT responsible in all cases for throttling ...

I've had to move all VPN activity onto my DSL connection as any encrypted traffic seems to trigger their draconian throttling.

Its not just VPN. SSH sessions will cause this too. Now that I've routed all that traffic over my DSL connection instead, my speeds on Rogers are somewhat back to normal.

I wonder how many other services Rogers will force us to use other providers for? HTTP? SMTP? Where will they draw the line?

I've talked to 3rd party DSL providers, but for my needs, they don't provide enough redundancy. I might as well just get another DSL login if I have problems, and that only costs $10/month. Of course, if Bell is having trouble at the CO/DSLAM, then I'd be SOL with another DSL provider.

I need redundancy. I guess you have to live in a datacenter to get that.

PS - I'm not using VPN for filesharing, I use it for work. They aren't selective about what kind of traffic it is, just anything encrypted, and wham-o... you're throttled.
