Use them to see what choices the camera would make, and then move back to modes with more control for tweaking.<br><br>Av is probably your friend here - use it when you want control over the DOF. I shoot a lot of flower macros at f/22 which pretty much requires a tripod unless you have a ton of light. I took several photos and never quite managed it. <br>It's not just the flower either.
