NIMBY

I find this kind of funny, first we constantly see articles about how the U.S. is WAY behind when it comes to BB. Then you have folks calling there U.S. reps saying dammit bring some type of BB to my neighborhood & do it NOW. Then when AT&T steps up they all say "Ummm, yea we cant have you install that big ugly box can't it just be done magically?". Crazy Americans!

Your argument would be good if others weren't already doing it w/o the big ugly boxes.

I think people have the right to express their opinions on the right way to get the job done -- ex: FTTN & VDSL vs. FTTH....

If you think people are complaining now, wait five years until people realize the deployment limits of these next-gen services.

I agree. For people to accept these gigantic boxes around the city, residents will have to be convinced that these units can provide something they cannot already get from cable. This does not seem to be the case with AT&T's "next gen" services.

It's not about NIMBY it's about AT&T being cheap. I live in a FiOS area and there's a lot fewer (or at least smaller) boxes and a lot more bandwidth.

I don't see these boxes in other countries that have sophisticated TV infrastructures. ATT is just cheap, lazy and they don't respect MY private property, but they want me to allow them to do anything they want to, including having the power of eminent domain.

Please!

It's ironic that in a country where supposedly private property rights are sacrosanct, these schmucks - paragons of the church of right-wing unfettered free-market, private property rights - want to have the power of eminent domain over my (and your) front lawn.

Big Ed has gonads, that's for sure. But given, as another poster pointed out then limits of the services these mega-boxes will provide, they have about ZERO chance of getting anyone's permission to do this.

I hate Comcrap, but they aren't lowering my property values by planting huge, hot, high-voltage boxes on my front lawn. They just have a vault underneath the sidewalk down the block. 100% invisible.

Sheesh.

Exactly.

In the long run, they're going to have to spend again and bring fiber to the home.

VZ has the right plan - ATT should do it now vs. later.
