new feature request - free software review

i have an idea for a new feature - sorry if this has been suggested before...

it would basically be a section of BBR dedicated to free software reviews (similar to the way broadband providers are reviewed). i was thinking that there could be various categories, such as firewalls, antivirus, anti-trojan, ect. right now all of this information is scattered across different BBR forums and can be hard to find.

i know based on the expertise of the BBR community i have found some really great stuff (Comodo, Avast (thanks, dadkins), Trillian, Opera, CCleaner, IE7Pro, SIW, numerous antispywares). I could go on for a while with the list. It would be great to see everything consolidated into one place - and make finding some really great apps (and staying away from some really bad ones) a lot easier.

Questions about the use of the software and issues incurred could also be asked here.

Thank you for considering this!

Both the Security Forum & the Software forum run annual [POLL]'s where members who use different applications will rate them

In the Software Forum, we utilize these [POLL]'s as well to create FAQ's based on member choices.

The forum exists for discussions and questions on software applications which also includes support in threads. The forum is also for "technical assistance ,introductions of new, comparisons of existing, and discussions of uses, pointers and tips" (from our descriptor). Also we have a topic tag [Review] available

I believe it's being utilized quite well at present for what you're looking for. Security still handles certain questions better, depending on the request & needs

Here's a link to the fruits of the members labor:

Both the Security and Software forums also have frequent posts on the freeware products, with lots of users providing opinions between polls. The Security forum is a great place to find what free programs are out there to clean an infected computer and keep it clean and the Software forum pretty much covers any and all freeware. There is also a Security Product Vendors that tracks new versions of programs.
