Increase speeds and volume; but cut costs

We also know that connecting cell sites or aggregation hubs isn't cheap, but how about a little price reduction? $60 (plus ample fees) for 5GB capped service isn't very sexy. Yeah, we just want everything..
Well that doesn't compute. Increase speeds; remove caps; expand infrastructure; but cut those prices. Well, when costs go up, so do prices. Ever hear of inflation?

That is not the point.

The point is you don't advertise one thing and provide another. AOL got hit with it when they went to the "unlimited" model.

Here is, more than likely, what happened. Verizon thought about wireless internet access and came up with the idea to sell their cards and service. When they put a price point on it, they thought they would make money. They probably never took into account the amount of traffic or the amount of data people would be pushing.

This shows either the extreme naivety or the complete lack of respect companies have for their customers.

just by the way...not ALL costs are subject to inflation.
if you think they are, feel free to pay me 2003 prices for a plasma tv. it will seem like a great deal for both of us!

and yes, i know that isnt a fair comparison, but just pointing out that costs increases dont need to be accepted as a given.

But the "supply and demand" equation will always drive costs. There are many more plasma TVs on the market (enabled by lower manufacturing costs and advances in technology) now than there were in 2003. That's not necessarily the case for broadband access
