Hotfix seems to do the job...

None of my personal machines have been affected (4 XP boxes running at home), but I've had three machines come in to my workplace with this problem. The kb927891 hotfix has resolved the issue every time. All of the machines I've seen give an error message on boot up stating that HHCTRL.OCX has stolen user32.dll's spot in memory. Never seen a computer refuse to boot because of this patch, fortunately.

Hopefully kb927891 will roll out into critical updates this coming Tuesday and all will be well [for people who patch their boxes regularly]. Great to see that MS was willing to release an out of cycle fix to the vulnerability, but obviously they didn't have time to thoroughly test it.
