1 edit | Where in the world is this user.js file? I used chrome edit plus to do this but some how it got corrupted and will not work properly any more. I need to undo what it done and apply your settings again. Even though it has been uninstalled. I went into about:config and seen it has still managed to keep your settings. How did that happen? |

In the very first post in this thread I included the information on how to create the user.js and included a link to the exact same link jmorlan posted again.

I do not use chrome edit plus as manually editing the user.js is just as fast after you create it. -- "There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact". - Sherlock Holmes |

1 edit | reply to Grail Knight Hi Grail Knight.....I want to make sure that I did the Firefox tweaks that you posted the right way. I saved them in Notepad as "user.js" and then copied and pasted them under Profiles Configuration Settings (I did not put a space between them and what was already there in that notepad entry. I DID NOT place the whole notepad file under the Profile folder.). Was that correct? If correct, how do I make sure that they show up in the prefs.js file? Where do I find that file? Thanks..... |

| Hello,
Make a new .txt document and name it user.txt
Copy tweaks into it - save and close
Rename to user.js
Move user.js file into Profile Folder
Restart Fx. -- "There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact". - Sherlock Holmes |

| Do you mean that what I did was wrong? The text document is already made using notepad and is renamed. There is a folder called "Profiles." In it is a folder named "ow1pazsv.default." Do I put the notepad file where that is, or do I open it up first and put it inside? Thanks. |

| reply to lordpuffer 1. It should be a .js file. (If you are using Windows make sure under Folder Options that "Hide Extensions for Know File Types" is unchecked.
2. The user. js needs to go inside the ow1pazsv.default folder.
If you can see the other files like bookmarks.html, cookies.txt, etc... then you have the user.js in the correct location. -- "There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact". - Sherlock Holmes |

| reply to Grail Knight Hi Grail Knight....On my old computer, I created the user.js file with the tweaks in it, put it under profiles, and it worked fine and showed up under about:config. However, when I put the file in my new computer that I just purchased under profiles, the tweaks do not show up under about:config, and when I try to open the user.js file, I get the attached error message. My old computer ran XP Home. My new one has XP Pro. What should I do? |

| What I would do is this.
1. Move the contents of the new Fx Profile to a backup folder.
2. Make a copy of your old Profile folders contents and copy them to the new computers Fx Profile folder.
3. Start Fx and all should be fine. You may have to make a few adjustments to extensions if any use folder for stuff as the paths will change but that is about it.

lordpuffer I Was Very Drunk At The Time Premium join:2004-09-19 West Hollywood, CA | Success! I somehow got it to work! I placed the user.js file under the only folder in Profiles called "55tfqkxp.default" and now the tweaks show up under about:config, so I guess everything is fine. Thanks everyone. |
