PMs should be short and to the point. If you have an image, send me the link and I can decide for myself whether to look at it.
Why should PMs be "short"? I love to sometimes write long PMs and my friends and I communicate at this site, and other sites, via the PM system at the site rather than use email. We use email mostly for images and attachments. I don't even have an email address for most folks. Email has too many problems plus my ISP just loves to arbitrarily block email.

I don't use any form of "instant" messaging rather I use the PM system at the sites where I spend my time. I gather you think the PM system is only for helping someone solve a computer problem? PMs are also used for social chat and to say the things that one would not post in a thread (and I don't mean nasty things...just information that should not be publicly posted but can be privately communicated).

When trying to provide help to users via IM the ability to send jpgs or gifs would be wonderful.
Provide that help in the forums, where you can post gifs and jpegs, and more than 1 person can gain from all your secret knowledge.

not to belabor the point, but I think it kind of funny that you write a post that is longer than most others, seem to be supporting my point of view, and then object?????

I didn't mean the post to be confusing. Sorry. I did say that I use email with my friends for pictures and attachments. I think PM here is fine as is (except for one glaring problem that has been begged for here over and over...preview should not be on another page so that when you see errors you have to keep going back and forth from the PM page to the preview page which is a hassle and with all the great stuff here it is a mystery why that has not been fixed too).

Just link to an image, if you need to keep it really private, just email.

I have had pics/files that I wanted to share with fellow members and all I had to do was e-mail it to them. Wasn't an issue. Sorry.
