You have got to be kidding me. What is innovative about selling songs that a record company decides not to have DRM on? Give me a break. You are stretching. Why do you mac freaks turn everything into mac vs pc? I have pcs and I have macs I don't want to hear about my pc loving.
Bottom line though...I applaud EMI. |

| Keep reading that without DRM...there will be added cost for higher quality. So basically they all agree that till now they will selling us bad quality products...or DRM makes the product of less quality.
Anyway...DRM free music should be cheaper..since the cost of making the music DRM compliant is not there...hence the music should be cheaper. Or is it that the music company decided to throw the towel...& make more money from it |

Actually, it is where EMI leads, will other music labels follow. Is EMI only the first of the major labels to do this, and will the other labels follow suit. Or will EMI be the only one for the time being?

| Problem is the record labels aren't really in competition with one another; meaning while they sell music they don't sell the same artists. EMI doesn't even have any artists in the Billboard Top 100. This could just be a publicity stunt to get attention to EMI artists.

Think about it: The best selling music device (iPod) coupled with an operating system that's on most of the world's PC's (Windows). That's a lot of potential sales just waiting for the right moment.
I pesonally have bucked the trend and bought a Creative Zen, but I can honestly say the main thing holding me back from buying digital music is DRM. After I pay for it, it's mine. And I play by the rules; my ripped CD's are for my own use. I do not make copies for anyone and I'd treat digital music downloads the same way. I'd venture to say most people would play fair also.
So I applaud MS, Apple, and EMI for taking the first steps. I'm ready to support this move with my music dollars if the dominoes start to fall.
