Re: [OOL] FIOS who?

you cant get the ool 50/50 its beta only and 2 people here were seen with it. they dont offer 100 mb with narad with OOL so your talking about Optimum Lightpath which cost $3000 for 50/50.

Static Ip's are currently being rolled out to limited BCOOL customers. Once all the bugs get worked out and all the phone reps are trained sufficiently, the Ultra roll out can be expedited. You have got to remember Cablevision just finished up the analog reclamation project for pretty much all of its territory so there were alot of other problems to go along with that. Also at the same time they were refining the Boost service and adding new HD channels to the lineup. OH yeah, the switched digital trials are coming along nicely as well. Its obvious Ultra is soon to follow. Isnt competition great?

Blunted narad tech is capable of 100/100 cablevision just chooses to have it set at 50/50

Iwas just stating it because of all the people who are pridicting doom for cablevision and spouting off lies that cablevision cant compete.

I dont even see verizon with any symetrical speed packages.

when OOL does 50/50 i bet verizon will too and as for OOL going under i doubt they will let that happen since they do better than most isps around here.

I agree - Verizon will follow whatever OOL does. That has been their approach so far. They charge high prices for their premium services ($199/mo), but increase the speed/lower the price where there is another ISP with comparable offerings.

Verizon sees no business justification in offering symmetrical speeds. Its not like if they offer a 5/5 and 10/10 package AND price it accordingly that they will get 20% increase in new sales. Its just not going to happen. A few geeks from this forum will actually get it. Some others in this forum will claim they are getting it but get mad when they realize FIOS wont be in there area until 2010.

i could get it but i see no reason to get it yet because if i do get it i am losing out on features. with boost i pay $45 a month for about 26/4.4 and with verizon it would be less than that for the 20/5 which cost more and i lose my website with boost. the only thing i would gain would be a more stable speeds and lower ping to local hops. other than that OOL gets better pings and hops in my area than fios. i tested it on my friends fios 2 blocks away and OOL has better routes and pings but it might be different in other areas.

I personally love the competition that verizon and cablevison are having right now. It will only mean that the people who should win the battle will win the battle, and that US.

I think cable vision is mart enough and have enough market share to handle whatever verizon throws at them.

I know i wont be getting FIOS for many years so i just hope that cable vision keep up the good work to keep its users very happy.

I like the competition too, but right now, for me at least, it won't change my bill no matter which way I go. Two advantages for FIOS would be that all the VOD channels are included, and they have a multi-room DVR. It won't change my Internet speeds much, and the phone side would be the same too. When Verizon realizes that the higher-tier customers would switch in a heartbeat for a decent savings, I think they will get many more converts. Just IMHO.

I think we'll see what you mentioned - increased speeds at competitive prices, but "When?" is the question. History has shown us that once Verizon has figured out "How?", as we saw with initially trouble-plagued and non-competitively priced DSL installations, they rebounded with increases in speed from 768 to 1.5Mb to 3.0Mb downstream. A gorilla like Verizon doesn't "come to speed" quickly, the key is momentum.

Very interesting @ your higher speeds. I'm very happy with OOL except for the fact that they limit the functionality of using BitTorrent, and as a result cap your speeds. I've already received 2 letters, but hopefully not a 3rd one - and doubt I will. FiOS however I'm sure is more stable and it's a better technology in comparison with what OOL has in store. When FiOS matures I'm sure it will be even much better, since the current FTTx technology is BPON, in the future GPON, and so on. But I'm loving the competition however.

By the way, I decided to register once again to BBR/DSLR after a few years being AWOL. My other name on here was Manik D, been here since 2001, unfortunately I can't get my account restored, but oh well.. I'm glad to be back!

Welcome back to DSLR.

If you are a heavy bittorent user, boost is a better service and is not currently subject to capping.

I'm not sure what letters you got, but I doubt they have anything to do with you bandwidth usage. What did the letters say - were they usage or copyright related?

Actually I hate to bring this up but I dont think its that they dont cp I just think nobody hit the limit yet because since boost is sort of on its own network and not many people have it yet . I think the caps are based on node activity and your uploading. Since their is so few with boost right now people are not hitting the sweet spot for capping yet.

So I wouldnt say there is no capping on boost , I just would say that nobody has hit the limit yet.
