You may have overlooked your best option...share your neighbor's internet service wirelessly.

You should be able to negoiate with one of your neighbor/friend that has broadband. Put a wireless access point in his and your location. Done Deal!
How would his neighbor have any options if he doesnt?

Most people have those option. And that is more than some.
Try telling that to people living in New England.
You are so right. I just installed a Sprint Router and EV-DO card for a small business that was on dial-up. Too far away for DSL and Charter wanted $4000.00 to run cable to their building, needless to say, they told Charter to F off. Sprint is their only viable option. And it was a very easy install to boot.

Sprint already offers an EVDO router for consumers for under $200, no limits. Many on evdoforums.com have been using the KR1 EVDO router for over a year. Sprint allowed it, Verizon didn't, but VZW users use it anyway but have a better chance of hitting the 5GB/month limit.

Now VZW only allows it with a special expensive plan, not allowed with core EVDO cards.

Sprint is pretty open about it, behaving like a real ISP. VZW is all about closed options, slower performance, 5GB/month limit and a draconian TOS.

People already have cheaper/unlimited access options - Cable, DSL, FiOS, etc.
That's ridiculous. Only some people do. Millions of people don't have any of those options, and won't have them anytime in the foreseeable future.

services not available

some, like me, don't have any other "real" option (dial-up is NOT an option in my book)

DSL = too far

cable = monopoly that won't service my part of the road (it's 1/2 mile away on one end, 1/4 mile away on the other).

FIOS = yeah...maybe in 2020

satellite = had it. useless for anything important like VPN/citrix. FAP makes other aspects almost useless

Usage based?

It will never be availble for homes if that's the case. People already have cheaper/unlimited access options - Cable, DSL, FiOS, etc.
