[EVDO] Sprint EVDO

Hello,
i have been looking into sprint evdo for awhile now but just couldnt make the switch. However i have wildblue and the service has continued to decline. i have no other options... dsl wont come out this far, cable wanted $11000!, and the only wireless company is blocked by woods. So i am looking at sprint again. all the reviews are great but i have a few problems. Im not really in Rev A coverage but am about 5 miles away but i show up under the "broadband speeds" on the coverage tool online. What kind of speeds do you think i will get? i figure if Rev A is close it will probably be even closer soon. Then i have 4 computers. 1 wired 3 wireless. I do not have the money to buy a evdo router so it looks like it will be ICS. I heard you could use a router with a print server or usb port (netgear) with a USB Evdo connector and share it that way. Is that true? and then there is the 2 year contract. i doubt dsl will get here anyway, but there is always that chance...i guess i just need someone to convince me this would be a good idea. i currently have the wildblue value pack and am not getting anything near what i am suppose to be getting. The pings are also averaging 2-3000. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wouldn't try using a USB print server. I'd use the ICS route. Your best bet is to just get the service and if it doesn't work, you have 30 days to return it. Coverage maps aren't always up to date, and there's a good chance if you're that close that you'll actually have it.

Off the topic when I lived in the sticks Mediacom wanted $35,980.00 to get me cable so atleast you are cheaper.

Well i came home today and decided to look at the maps again. i was surprised to see that my area had been updated to REV A! So i decided it was time to get the service. I went to my local sprint store and picked up the Novatel U720. I have it all hooked up but am having a problem. i'm only getting 480 down and 105 up. I am in Rev A coverage now so shouldnt i be getting better speeds? Im new to this so if you could please tell me what i should do. I do know when i move over across the signal it tells me this: Signal (1xRTT):-95dbm Under that:(1xEVDO REV A) -95dbm* what does this mean? Thanks for any help Oh and i also updated the manager.

Your speeds are somewhat low, but your signal strength isn't that great either. I'd consider a directional antenna or a repeater to get you a better signal (and with that, better speeds).

I would ask Sprint how long is Rev A in your Area couse if its there not for some time you will have to let tham work on it thay will make it faster. My Rev A is about one mounth old and its geting faster by a weeks

Ok i have moved my pc upstairs close to a window. My signal has gone up. i now have -85dbm how much better is that? i still can only download no more that 500kbs. Rev A was just turned on yesterday so could that be the problem? Also is there anything i should do to the software or anything else to make it faster. I did do a tweak test and everything was fine. Thanks
