| Day of Truth event
My son is attempting to organize and participate in his schools "Day of Truth" event. Teachers and the principal are causing him needless grief.
Any of you have children participating in this national event? Why do the authorities not recognize the rights of Christians? |

2 edits | Since you seem to be coming from someplace on the east coast (bna.com) I'm wonder what, if anything, this has to do with Southern California?
I'm sure your Day of Intolerance "Truth" organization can help your son more than this forum if that is, indeed, your purpose in posting here (which somehow I doubt). |

| reply to BBBJason I remember those "Day of Truth" events and the like. What a crack-up they were. The only people that gave a hoot were the people in the event, and the administrators that was trying to avoid a lawsuit.
Normally, I don't feed trolls. But on this one I gotta speak up. The authorities ARE recognizing the rights of Christians. Just as they are recognizing the rights of non-Christians (read: everyone else). That means, curtailing activities that [(can be) AND/OR (willfully are) AND/OR (thoughtlessly)] infringing on human rights. The "Day of Truth" event, as perceived by non-participants, is an intrusion on the right of privacy, the right of personal choice in religion (and by extension, religious expression), and the state-given right of basic education.
This just in: America is not a theocracy, nor does it have a state religion. Just because the "Founding Fathers" used themes from a Judean-Christian background to frame the rights spelled out on the Constitution, DOES NOT MEAN that Judean-Christian based religions have the right to denigrate non-JC beliefs into secondary-citizen status.
If you want a "Day of Truth" type event to happen without any hassling, go to a private school that caters to your preferred expression of religion.
I've been on both sides of the banner. I've walked in Harvest Crusade marches, and I've been approached on school grounds by child-evangelists. When I participated in the marches, I really believed that they truly meant something and that I was helping the Christian-cause. I know now, that the only thing I accomplished, was some exercise. I send my daughter to a public school for an education in Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. Not for religious instruction. Not for someone to present contradictory morality plays. To learn the skills needed to survive in THIS lifetime. When she is home with me, we discuss matters of faith and heart.
This is what your "Day of Truth" is doing... forcing the teachers to take time away from everyone else. As low as the scores are in Southern California, the teachers would better serve $DIETY by helping the students to read, to understand what they are reading, and to think logically and critically about what they are reading, so the students can decide for themselves what (if any) preferred expression of religion they wish to undertake.
One last point, if I may. Have you noticed, that the countries with a state-approved religion, are those that does the most to DISCOURAGE creative thought and critical thinking? What a Glorious Path that is, I'm sure.
Ok, I'm done feeding the troll.
To being this post back to topic: Beans and fried Spam? No, my dear.. Spam marinated in teriyaki sauce, sliced thin, and seared. Slap some of that on some rice, and make a Spam roll out of it. mmm! Just don't mix Spam and cheese... for the love of $DIETY! |

| If you go to the website, they state that:
This marks the third year of the Day of Truth, which was established to counter the promotion of the homosexual agenda and express an opposing viewpoint from a Christian perspective.
and
The Day of Truth is scheduled for April 19, 2007. This is the day after GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) will sponsor the "Day of Silence." GLSENs Day of Silence encourages students to remain silent throughout the day. It is part of their overall strategy to change how our society perceives homosexual behavior. But the Day of Silence is a misnomer, because what is truly being silenced is the Truth. Looks like it's tit-for-tat with a gay rights demonstration. -- Iraq Coalition Deaths | bobrk |

| reply to NightVisor Good points, my feelings exactly.
Tonight I'm preparing fried Spam diced into sesame oil flavored rice with pineapple chunks and freshly picked, lightly sauteed red onion bottoms and tops mixed in.
I just have this weird Spam thing going on at the mo. -- Life Member, NRA and CRPA. |

Please detail the rice... I'm curious now. |

said by (dayoftruth.org) »www.dayoftruth.org/resources/def···cid=3559 : Participating students are encouraged to wear T-shirts and pass out cards (not during class time) with the following message:
I am speaking the Truth to break the silence. Silence isnt freedom. Its a constraint. Truth tolerates open discussion, because the Truth emerges when healthy discourse is allowed. By proclaiming the Truth in love, hurts will be halted, hearts will be healed, and lives will be saved.
"The Day of Truth is scheduled for April 19, 2007....But the Day of Silence is a misnomer, because what is truly being silenced is the Truth."
"...there is no organized activist movement that exists worldwide today to legalize and encourage theft, adultery, or lying. But there is a mobilized movement that challenges Gods truth on a daily basis with regard to homosexual behavior. That is why we are responding to yesterdays Day of Silence to counter attempts to legitimize and promote homosexual behavior."
"Most people would agree that the commandment from God, Thou shalt not kill is truth. But what happens if someone rejects that as truth, and their truth allows them to engage in the killing of innocent human beings? We are simply pointing to what our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, recognize: that there are absolute truths, and that such truth comes from our Creator, God."
From your website you clearly suggest homosexuals are the legal equivalent to thieves and murders. Justified by an misguided interpretation of the Constitution.
Our society rounds up murders and many are sent off to the gallows. When, under "gods" law, will your group be doing the same? (rhetorical)
I suggest you peddle your white-christian-male-supremacist message elsewhere.
BTW, From my experiences operating a business in West Hollywood for 8 years, that tee-shirt wearing "poster-boy" on your website is as flamingly-fruity as they come. Take it from me. |

| reply to bobrk I just spent a thoroughly enjoyable Easter (which I don't celebrate, but I do use it as an excuse to gather with family) up in the Fresno area. One of my second cousins was there with her life partner, a manly looking woman with tats and a background in the navy and truck driving. We all had a wonderful 3 day visit on the Kings River, and that included my 85 year old Christian aunt, the grandmother of the homosexual cousin
The couple also brought my cousin's 12 year old daughter. They're both raising her. She's a little sweetheart.
I mention this only because of the apparent agenda of these Day of Truth bigots. Imagine that, a mostly Christian group of family members celebrating the Easter holiday with three filthy faggots (my son was also there, thus making 3) and a heathen Atheist (that's me) in attendance.

| reply to CurtesyFlush Word. We spent easter with some of our gay relatives, too.
These fundamentalist Christian groups have it all wrong. You wonder if they've ever read Jesus's actual words, or if they only read the Old Testament. They are as bad as the Wahhabists are in comparison with real Muslims. -- Iraq Coalition Deaths | bobrk |
