Actually he shut it {BOClean) down long ago..and that is why it got through to the system even with KAV which was running and missed it..you just got in on the tail end of how it all came down in the cleanup thread.

but you can always just try to keep on figuring out with netbus..what is the infecter or the infectee

If he shut BOC down, how was BOC reporting BYXYAAX.DLL?

It WAS running, and BOC failed to remove it!

Read this one more time NG:

"BOClean keeps reporting BYXYAAX.DLL . it disables it but if i try to remove it BOC shuts down."

Uhm, yeah!
Reread that whole thread!
CJ got him cleaned up. NOT BOC!

NetBus, reread that whole fiasco, please?
The whole thing about NetBus was Kevin professing some BS about leagalese keeping NetBus detection enabled was to keep BOC as a "club".
Well, that didn't fly!
EVERYONE detects NetBus, and they aren't a "club".

Do you agree with this line:

"No offense intended here, but it's always been amazing how low the bar has been for so-called "security experts" in forums."

Or, do you realize this response is true:

Yep! Sure is!

Good thing I have *NEVER* even eluded to be an expert on security!

Now, answer me friend...

Why have I, and many other people, done fine without the Almighty BOC?

Here's some tips for installing from Kevin, via the Comodo forum:

For anyone replacing their earlier BOClean, some RULES which need to be followed as far as installing the new version, however since I have no idea of when the support center or the documentation pages are going to be there ... this is all I can offer ...

#1. If you already have a copy of any earlier BOClean on your machine, UNINSTALL it first! If you have BOClean running on the traybar, right click it, select "shut down BOClean" and that will make it go away. Should you forget to do this, the remover will complain and tell you to do so. There is no harm done if the old BOClean were to be left running, however you'll have two BOCleans running and that will waste resources. The two will not interfere with one another, but you only require one.

#2. In order to properly install the COMODO BOClean 4.23 onto a Vista machine, you *MUST* right click on the downloaded setup programme and select "Run as administrator" to install it properly. For XP and earlier, being administrator/owner is sufficient. A reminder screen will appear when started to warn that it must be installed under the administrator/owner account but people don't read what's right in front of their face. It's NECESSARY to ensure that the kernel driver is properly loaded that the installation be done by administrator and under VISTA, it must be done under "Run AS" ...

#3. Once installed, BOClean will NOT reboot the machine - this is done in order to protect any "works in progress" on the user's machine from accidental loss. However, the kernel driver once installed MUST start at bootup and without a bootup to kick it off, it will not be present until the machine has been rebooted "at your earliest convenience." BOClean will also start automatically after a reboot, it is NOT started by the installer based upon the need for its kernel driver to be present. This is the reason for the reboot requirement rather than just starting BOClean straight away.

Finally, I'm not sure if there's updates for 4.23 being put on the COMODO server - the NSClean site is NOT updating BOClean 4.23 at all ... just 4.22. So please bear with us, I've suddenly become overloaded myself.

Dadkins i dont understand why you have such a grudge to boclean. I completely understand why you dont need it, but for me its going to make my life easier.. Why you ask, well dont you have family or friends who always seem to get trojans no matter what antivirus they use. I know I do.. Every other week im having to clean their computers from some trojan off of myspace or some email attachment they opened even though I told them not to. This just offers one more layer of protection. It doesnt touch resources and now that its free there is no reason not to install it.

I understand why you wouldnt need it. Personally I could probably even go without virus protection, but there are people out there who are not computer SAVY such as yourself.

You seem to have an unreasonable hatred towards boclean and I cant understand why. Its software each person has their own opinion towards things. You said you use Outpost I hate outpost, but I don't go to every outpost topic and talk about how I think it sucks.

BOclean failed to remove it because KAV tried to jump on it it first.. did a bad job of stopping it and two of the vectors of the package sent..and when the user tried to do that system restore..and brought back into play two files BOClean still disabled..but I would not expect it to clean that PC at that point..it's too late.

I have run that badboy "package" against a system with NO AV..and BOClean would not even let it load and there was no infected winlogon or other files of the OS.

When you see KAV popup on one of those and tell you you are still infected.. or even attempt to disable it..let me know

Hi boclean users i'm trying boclean for the first time since I heard it's good. I experienced this problem when uninstalling from add/remove programs on a win2k box([an error occured while trying to remove boclean. it may have already been uninstalled. would you like to remove boclean from the add/remove program list?] look at screenshot). Uninstalling from the programs menu works so i'm just putting it out there, its no biggie, it doesn't bother me since i don't remove programs from there anyway.

Aside from that, how can i test boclean if it's working? I tried leaktest from grc and it blocked it, but this a firewall leak test tool. I tried to start other programs that required internet access and I didn't get no pop up from boclean.

regards

You can't uninstall from add/remove if it is still running.

Also this link will still help users to set it up and understand it's features.

1f you're REPLACING an existing version of BOClean, then you'll want to first doubleclick the traybar icon and click "Shutdown BOClean" on the button menu which appears. Then UNINSTALL the earlier BOClean from the BOClean program group on the start menu, or from the Windows control panel's "add/remove programs." BOClean should appear on the list. If your previous BOClean cannot be uninstalled, then go ahead and install the 4.22 version, then UNINSTALL it, and then finally install it again. This will remove all prior traces of your old BOClean and install the new one "squeaky clean."

I have asked Kevin and all the BOC evangelists questions about BOC and all I have ever gotten is BS.

All I want is some answers.

Everyone skates the issues I raise. Is that MY fault?

"signature-based mentality" - ok, someone tell me, what is included with BOC updates?
Why do the numbers of detected things go up?
Aren't those - signatures?

Uh huh...

BS!

No trial... WHY?
Now it's free, but why wasn't there EVER a trial? Right!

NO ONE has ever given me a straight answer.
Well, now look!
BOC was doing SO well, Kevin had to "sell out" to COMODO. Gee, wonder why?

No one drinking the KoolAid fast enough to keep food on the table?

No, I have the "Guy In Charge" try to insult me... LMAO!
Kinda failed, didn't it!

Yeah, y'all can keep on slinging it, *I HAVE THE MF!*
NO ONE here can BS me any longer!
I can see WTF it does or does NOT do myself!
Never could before... scared much?

Sorr if YOU don't like Outpost.
As a Firewall, Outpost is about as good as you are going to get!

Agnitum's OSSP, well, it SUCKED!
I had NO PROBLEM telling them it sucked!

Ok, now back to BOC... guess what!
I have it, I ran it, it sucked!

Y'all can stop now! LOL!
Perhaps YOU(whomever) needs it to protect you from ??? - sorry!

*IF* I wanted a resident AT, I have a couple.
Bigger teeth & lighter on resources - no matter what any of you wish to try and feed *US*.

@ NG,
I thought BOC was supposed to COMPLIMENT an AV...
BOC aint what you think(or have been brainwashed into thinking) it is! LOL!

Y'all are funny!
I'm here because I speak my mind!
I am also here to give a second look at this subject.
...from a realistic viewpoint.

Back when BOC was dropped, it was the shit!

Today, not so much. No matter what any of you have to say about it! Sorry!

EDIT:
Hey! Where the hell is Nancy?

Ye, I closed boclean via the menu and didn't want to uninstall from add/and remove programs. I removed it from the programs menu...

start=>programs=>comodo=>comodo boclean=>uninstall comodo boclean.

After uninstalling from the programs menu boclean stays in the add/remove programs list, it goes away after a reboot. This doesn't bother me i'm just putting it here for reference to others or if someone would like to pass the word to comodo, whatever.

What I'm really interested in is how to test boclean. I'm use to programs give me pop ups, movement, anything that tells me it's working. It just sitting there

Yes thats its job. Its silent until an infection tries to load in memory. I dont suggest trying to test it unless you have knowledge of malware or at least a complete image of your computer that you can go back to. A great way to test is p2p They seem to have the latest trojan variants.

Try this... QUITE safe!

EDIT: It's a firewall Leak Test. Harmless!

EDIT2: It appears that COMODO/Kevin removed the FP of detecting that leaktest when ran.

If you drag that leaktest to the "New" BOC, it gets flagged as bad.

Dadkins is the expert I would not test it unless a setup is available for one station to infect another.

I would imagine some labs will now take a crack at it.

Dadkins has no idea how Boc works. What did you say. You went surfing to bad places with others security in place including Boc. You said boc didn't do shit. Well boc detects when the malware is in memory. Your AV would see the malware first cos it file scans and detects the malware BEFORE it gets to memory. You would have needed to switch off all your other security apps to see what boc can do. But then again you don't know how it works, so how you profess to know HOW to test it is beyond. Oh and i used to be a regular poster here and you were a cool guy. Times change...

Yes friend!
I know how BOC (is supposed to) work.

NO ONE, for any reason gets me to kill my AV. LOL!

My point is, having BOC sitting there doing - nothing, is a waste!
It is!

I have read MANY posts here at DSLR about BOC pouncing on whatever and saving someone from certain disaster.

Ok, cool!
Well, something must be wrong from the start if BOC ever gets to *SEE* the malware.
That means, something FAILED in preventing the malware form getting on the machine.
BOC only sees something if it is running in memory, right?

Who dropped the ball and allowed ??? on the machine?

No amount of me clicking on every freakin link I see has made BOC do - anything!

No!
My machine(s) are NOT locked down!
I do NOT have stuff disabled - ANY of it!
I run as Administrator at all times.
I have ALWAYS ran as Administrator.

Can anyone here explain how I(and many others) have ran this way for years without BOC and no infections?

Naw, didn't think ya could...

This what *I* see whan I drag Leak Test to "it".
NOTE: This BOC did not detect Leak Test when it was ran.

Yeah! I have it! I get off on trying & testing software!
All kinds of software.
From any producer.

BTW, this one uses 13+MB now.
4.22 used 10MB.
