At the time I went with Bright House, neither BH or VZ offered static IP's with their residential service, only with business class service. Verizon wants $10.04 more plus a two year contract.
In 2000 I moved to my current home 20 miles north of Tampa. I was stuck on dialup for a while. I communicated with Verizon about them getting DSL out here but they made the business decision (their words not mine) not to. My neighbor works for Verizon and told me it was because of the fight over line sharing. Interestingly, even after the RT was in place they still waited more than a year to start DSL service The cable company was first with broadband, Verizon has always been a day late and a dollar more. Not worth it to me. |

| Why do you need a static IP exactly?
Theres nothing I can't do with a dynamic IP that I can with a static (aside from host a web server on port 80, because of the port block - and its pretty stupid to be running a real web service off the back of your residential 2MB connection anyhow, especially for an extra 40 bucks a month!) |
