noping : I find myself saying the same thing about the Actiontec. The web interface is rubbish ("WARNING: LOOKING AT THIS PAGE MAY AFFECT PERFORMANCE, PROCEED?"), tiny NAT table (affects P2P performance), lack of WPA2, etc. I thought that the free VDI-604 units (before the Actiontecs became standard equipment) were superior to this huge steaming pile of poop.

To each their own, I suppose. My little WRT54Gv2's been good to me for over two (three?) years now, from stock firmware to HyperWRT to DD-WRT to Tomato.

Edit: looking over my previous post in this thread, I have no bloody clue why I posted a link to that thread.

FunkyMonkCP : I hate the actiontec because of the wireless range, it's just terrible. Also the interface is quite jumbled. I like the standard linksys wrtg54 interface. When I get home, I just want to put it first and practically get rid of the actiontec for serving up the internet. I just need to know if I can follow the steps in that other thread verbatim for putting the linksys first.

noping : »How-to: make ActionTec MI424-WR a network bridge

5) Go ahead and log back into the router if you have "Restore Defaults", otherwise just click on "My Network" at the top of the screen. Once you are there, click on "Network Connections" at the menu on the left.
6) You should now see a list of interfaces that exist in the router. To see them all, click on the "Advanced" button below that list.
7) Now you will need to do this very important step. you will need to release your MI424-WR's IP from the ONT or you will NOT be able to have your new router DHCP an IP for itself!. To do this, click on the "Broadband Connection (Coax)" from the connection list. Then click on the "Settings" button at the bottom. You will now see a bunch of settings for this interface. Make sure the "Privacy" option is enabled (if you have reset your MI424-WR to defaults earlier, it maybe disabled. Not having this setting enabled will cause the connection to the ONT to fail!). You can click on the "Release" button if an IP address is currently assigned to the MI424-WR. Click the "Release" button and immediately change the "Internet Protocol" option to "No IP Address" (default setting is "Obtain an IP Address Automatically"). Click on "Apply" afterwards, then "Yes" (if there's a confirmation message), then "Apply" again.
8) Now you will need to turn the MI424-WR into a bridge. In the connection list, click on "Network (Home/Office)", then click on the "Settings" button. You will see a list of interfaces under "Bridge". Check the box next to the "Broadband Connection (Coax)", then check the box under the STP column. Click on "Apply" afterwards, then "Yew" (if there's a confirmation message), then "Apply" again.

divinatum : FiOS TV got installed today, and the installer goofed around with an external NIM for a few hours and could only make 2 / 3 of the STBs work. I now realize why the NIM didn't work and I'm an idiot (I ran out of available IP addresses for lease from my WRT. d'oh!)

Now the installer got fustrated and in a pissed off fit installed the ActionTec pile of crap and a new line of coax to where my FiOS Cat5 comes in and split it into the existing coax (There was no coax where the Cat5 comes in)

But, I HATE this actiontec router. I would like to set it up as follows.. (Excuse the crude ASCII)

FiOS ONT (Cat5) -> In WAN - Linksys WRT54g - Out LAN ->In WAN - Actiontec -> Coax to TVs for IPG and On Demand.

I've been goofing with this for an hour now and I can't figure it out. I know what I have to do, but I just can't navigate my way around the HORRID interface (I'd have to say it's worse than WindowsXP)

I know I need to disable DHCP on the ActionTec, Set it to use a static IP I want to specify (192.168.1.3) and be on my way. I just can't figure out the horrible menus. Thanks in advance
