Could this have anything to do with PeerGuardian running? Otherwise I can't think of anything that's different from the past week. -- /chown -R us:us /yourbase |

1 edit | I found a thread at CastleCops that makes reference to a conflict between PeerGuardian and Zone Alarm. That thread did not say what the conflict was:
I went to Phoenix Labs to search for this supposed conflict and came up empty handed. The link to Phoenix Labs is further down the thread in the CastleCops link posted above.
Have you tried a clean uninstall and reinstall of Zone Alarm to see if that makes a difference? -- 2006-2007 Alaska Aces Record: 49-16-7 West Division Champs Nat'l Conf Quarter-finals: Alaska 4 - Victoria 2 Nat'l Conf Semi-finals: Alaska - Bakersfield |

| reply to Trel Well I can't afford to do that at the moment. I only use peerguardian every once in a while. This only started happening today while peerguardian was running. So I'm not to worried as long as it doesn't happen while it's not running.
(Worse case scenario, I'll switch to comodo. ZA is already on its last lifeline with me (long story short: paid for pro to gain a feature, but Pro is missing a feature of free which make the reason I paid worthless and posts I make about it on their support forum get deleted)) -- /chown -R us:us /yourbase |

| Zone Alarm free has a checkbox that lets me unprotect the client so that I can interact with it when connecting to my computer with VNC.
Zone Alarm Pro lets me open specific ports so I may just open the one I use for VNC.
Zone Alarm Pro has an OS Firewall which I do not use.
However, unless you're using the OS Firewall which generates alerts I do not want, you cannot configure Zone Alarm Pro to allow interaction when connected via VNC. This happens since Zone Alarm Pro removes the checkbox that the free one has.
(Not being allowed to interact via VNC means I cannot answer any alert dialogs either) -- /chown -R us:us /yourbase |

I know they removed it in one of the versions 6's. BTW, here's a screenshot of mine.
So now it is a choice. The first screenshot of yours is what Zone Alarm Free is like. The second screenshot is what Zone Alarm Pro has.
There's no longer any way to get both.

| well guess its a good thing i have a gateway liscence that never has to contact ZoneLabs. I just enter the key in the router and it contacts the router I have for liscenceing info.
And guess i will never go above version 5.1 or 4.5.438.
ZAlarm is going down hilllll guess thats what Macaffee planed on when they purchased them. -- Koma If YOu Don't Think It's Possable!! It's Acually A Reality!! The best way to predict the future is to invent it. Alan Kay!! Ya Don't Know The signal Till Ya Ride It!! Voice Break's There's Trouble!! |

It's unfortunate that the original poster cannot use a feature that is available in the free version and unavailable in the paid Pro version.
For many users, myself included, Zone Alarm does exactly what we need it to do. It's unfortunate that a handful of users cannot make use of a feature.

You can have OSfirewall OFF but Smartdefence ON. Furthermore you can disable single items in OSfirewall without disabling it entirely...
And you can have Smartdefence active but programs with custom rules that override smartdefence automatic rules.

| Ok, Now I understand!
How the hell you expect to work if you disable the three bar function (i.e. OS firewall)?
ZA has always blocked any remote control, by design. Version 6 onwards included the OSfirewall and introduced this option. But if you disabled it... better you choose another security solutions!

How the hell you expect to work if you disable the three bar function (i.e. OS firewall)? I expect them to leave the feature that the free version has. A simple check box that allows me to choose to unprotect the client. Free has it, upgrade to pro and then it's gone. The version I payed for when I bought pro had it, then they removed it.
That is what I find unacceptable. -- /chown -R us:us /yourbase |
