 | Sprint EVDO, do I need a site survey? I'm in one of those areas that, for the longest time, I only had sattelite internet or dial-up available. I was very happy to learn from other posts on this site that Sprint had been expanding their EVDO network, and I checked my address actually seem to be in an area that now gets coverage.
I am now in the process of learning about using EVDO primarily for home use. I have been reading a bit here that people recommend to get a site survey to make sure that I will actually get a decent signal from my specific location. I have done some searching on Sprint's website and didn't see any information about a site survey (infact, the Sprint website was terrible for learning information about using the EVDO service for non-mobile use).
Does anyone know what I should do? Should I call Sprint customer service (if they even offer it?) Is such a survey necessary or should I just sign up and try it out for the 30 days they offer and cancel if I am unsatisifed?
Thanks |

Do you know anyone with a Sprint 3G phone? You could at least see what the regular 1x signal looks like at your house. Most of the newer phones have PowerVision (EVDO) and if it's available it'll show the 3G icon (3 arrows up and down) on the display. -- Sprint Mobile Broadband PX-500 | Windows XP MCE SP2 | Mobile AMD Athlon 64 4000+ | 1.5GB RAM | ATI Mobile Radeon X600 128MB | 120GB HDD |

Thanks Sprint does not do site surveys. You may have read about WISP's doing site surveys, and that is a normal thing. There is a lot of difference between Sprint and a WISP. EVDO is designed for mobile devices and a WISP uses gear that is designed to be fixed in one location and not moved. Since finding a WISP can be hard sometimes, a lot of people such as yourself have been trying to use EVDO for high speed internet as they have no other options. Overall, if you can get a decent signal, your Sprint EVDO may be a lot better than dialup and a great option. Just go to Sprint and return it within 30 days if you have no signal. Good luck. -- »www.wavecrazy.net Join WISPA today! »www.wispa.org/ |

| Sprint EVDO can be used as a fixed wireless solution in your home if you have a good signal. There are several EVDO routers on the market that can connect all of your home computers either wirelessly or via ethernet. www.3gstores.com will show you the available routers. The advantage of this is you can be mobile or fixed. Take it on the road with a laptop or plug it into your home network. |
