Password manager

I am looking for a good password manager. I don't use the save password feature in either IE or Firefox because I don't trust their security. I have been using Linkstash for passwords for sites that I am not particularly concerned about. I would not use a password manager for important sites like banking. Linkstash has turned out to be unreliable. Sometimes it works perfectly, other times it won't enter the user name/password information at all (for the same site it worked perfectly on the day before), and sometimes it enters the username and password from a different site than the one I am on. I give up on it. While I don't use the password manager for high risk sites, I still would like to use manager that has strong security. I am reluctant to start downloading and trying a bunch of these programs because it seems like a good way to pick up some serious malware. Any recommendations of proven quality password managers? Thanks.

Here is a lengthy, very recent thread on password managers.

Re: Password manager

Thanks for the earlier thread. Interesting that I searched the forum for "password manager" (among other things) before posting and it didn't come up in the search.

Thirded.

I've tried Roboform before, but found it's interface to be overly complicated in comparison to Password Safe. Plus, Roboform only works inside of Web browsers. I have many applications that require a Username/Password and Password Safe handles them with ease.

Lots of votes for Keepass (also called Keepass Password Safe) and for Password Safe (from sourceforge). I understand that these are two completely different programs, right?

Yes they are.

The brilliant thing about keepass is that it allows you to use two factor authentication

Download and install truecrypt. Create a highly encrypted small 100 meg file. Save passwords in text files. This is by far more secure than any password mgmt software out there.

I switched from Brad Greenlee's PassKeeper 1.2 to Password Safe a couple of years ago and have never been disappointed. It's frequently updated and improved. Go with it.

Both truecrypt and keepass support AES/Rijndael and Twofish encryption ... but keepass supports auto launching URLs and auto completing userid/password ... one key advantage.

Been using Roboform Pro for some number of years. It is an excellent password manager/generator .. and much more.
