Rescind thumbs up or down

OK, here's one. I was P.O'd at something someone said, so I gave them thumbs down. Ten mins later I wanted to take that back. Would be great if we could.

EDITED: Tried doing this in dev/null and with some help (thanks FB! ) figured out that even though you are giving an anon user a thumbs down - they see a thumbs up, but just with no name.

This was me (both anon and me) giving myself, the anon one, a thumbs down...

You can only do that to anons.

*object* The thumbs down is useless and it should be removed from the anon popup dialogue.

Great minds think alike, me and SOMEONE tried the same thing and came to the same conclusion....

You probably ought to report that in the site bugs forum.

I thought about it, but if the people are anon users, you really don't want to discourage them from becoming members. If all these anon people start seeing thumbs down on all their posts. I doubt that they'd want to come back.

Please read the first couple few replies. It's only for anonymous posts.

In that case -object- anons are worthless anyway.

Heh - Justin sneaked that in there and nobody caught it until now. All this time, the anons people thought were getting thumbs down were really getting thumbs up.

Neutral because I have had all anons on ignore for months now.

yes, but if anons are being nasty or rude to registered users, why shouldn't we be able to discourage the behavior? WHy should they get away with slinging crap just cos they haven't registered?

Do you really think they care? It's not like they have a reputation to maintain here.

well, as someone pointed out, I don't remember where. There are certain companies that won't allow their employees to register here, so they post anon. (RR or ATT or somewhere), so those people may be anons, but they still TRY to be helpful, so I disagree with that statement. Some DO care about their reputation. Also, if they're decent human beings they care, whether or not they're registered

There's a simple solution-- don't give one unless you're sure you want to.

Posts should stand on their own merit. If you feel someone has made a 'thumb-worthy' one, and give a thumb, what are you going to do-- take it back twenty minutes later when the same person posts again, and you don't agree with that post?
An awful lot of adding & removing thumbs, potentially, if you ask me.

Plus, we'd need a notification, wouldn't we, that the prior thumb had now been rescinded?
Then you get nasty IM's about 'WTF did you pull my thumb??!'
Things could go back & forth like that for a long time! Or get worse!

. . . I'm not liking what I'm seeing here!

Respectfully, *Object*

I don't support rescinding, but I did fix up the display for anon posts and thumbs up / thumbs down..
