| I'm about to buy a MacBook Pro -- better to wait?
Right now I have a G5 from 2 years ago (1.8 duo), a Mini to run Windows when I need it and a PowerBook G4 15".
I do not do video...really just emails and browsing and some light word processing. Sync my iPod, my iPhone (well now its a Treo soon an iPhone).
So I as thinking of selling all three and getting into a MacBook Pro.
I'm considering the 15 but also the 17. I'd have an external 19" as my primary monitor and use the laptop as a secondary monitor. I like the 17's 3rd USB and larger screen. Does the 17" look ugly?
I do not travel much at all. I like to go to the Apple store for lessons and I like to take my computer so that when the project is done I don't have to go home to the G5 and try to duplicate what the kids in the store did for me. And moving data from one of my Macs to another is tricky.
I want a 1 computer solution with a backup.
Should I wait? My 160 Gig drive in the G5 is almost full. Will 250's come soon? Speeds?
The website says Don't Buy! When the new system comes, won't it be tricky for a few months? |

| I'd wait, Intel is rolling out a new platform and it is likely to be quickly adopted by Apple. The 17" was too big for me due to travel, but for you is probably the best option. I went to the Apple store several times before making the decision between 15 and 17. |

The next Macbook Pro update will presumably not be a complete overhaul so they shouldn't have any 1st gen type bugs, although there's always a chance. But if you wait make sure you're ready to wait possibly up to another 4 months from now, you never know. -- "To create a new standard takes something that's not just a little bit different. The next lineup getting an overhaul would be the iMacs, which rumors say will be going silver to match the MBP, Mac Pros, and Apple monitors. -- Josh| About Me |

I want a darn update to the Mac mini though! -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! Thanks for pissing that one point away sometime this season... |

I'm a thinkin the Mac Minis will be next. They are still running the Core Duo. The rest of the line is on Core 2 Duo. My old G4 mini cant even play HD content on my HDTV, heh. I hope the long delay will result in the Santa Rosa platform being used in the updated mini. If not, then blah. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! There are a few companies that work as an aftermarket customizer with apple, »www.colorwarepc.com is one of them, you can either choose to buy the computer from them for about $800+retail for custom coloring on the new iMacs, Mac Minis and Macbook/MBP lineups. I'm interested in getting one myself. they also customize the mice which is pretty cool if you want your stuff to match. If you don't like the idea of paying almost $3800 for a fully loaded one then you can buy one from Apple and send it to colorware with an order form. another consideration of mine for my MBP when i eventually get it. |

| I thought I would love the 17", until I got one. The keyboard just looked so damned small and all the extra real estate around the palmrest just looked really corny. I sold it and went with the 15" glossy and was very delighted with it. It is the perfect size for a laptop (even though I love big displays)
The best thing to do is go to an Apple store if possible and look at them. Things I thought I'd hate turns I love and visa versa. -- Have you hugged your Mac today? |

A familiar game to Mac owners looking to upgrade... Regarding the notebooks and iMac receiving an overhaul it would be nice to see both desktop and notebook overhauled in 2007 but it seems more likely that it will be iMac overhauled this year and notebook overhaul next year. My bet is they refresh notebooks and mini with Intel's new Santa Rosa platform, it will be disappointing if they delay notebook refresh until led backlight displays are ready. The overhaul rumors for notebook lineup include display, flash and subnotebook technologies. Latest rumors target subnotebook in late 2007 or early 2008. |

Steve Jobs just said "We plan to introduce our first Macs with LED backlight technology in 2007. Our ability to completely eliminate fluorescent lamps in all of our displays depends on how fast the LCD industry can transition to LED backlighting for larger displays."
I highly doubt you will see LED backlit Macbook Pros in 1-2 months. Not even Dell has them yet, and they update their products ASAP. -- "To create a new standard takes something that's not just a little bit different. Sure, but LED back lit notebooks requires an overhaul. Swapping out logic board for Santa Rosa is more of a refresh and I would expect that in 1-2 months. |
