The majority of the people in this area are elderly who don't want change and have no interest in WIFI internet. agreed, one of the last things WB needs is WIFI. I got a nice chuckle when I read that headline. Its not just the elderly population that has no interest in WIFI, I know more than a few 20-30 yr olds who don't have a computer...nor want one. IMO this topic shouldn't be thought about by WB for another generation, at least. Maybe then more than a handful or 2 of ppl will actually want/use it. I'd really like to see a street poll of how many ppl actually know what WIFI is. said by antiphishing :Nobody is going to invest in this city when more and more people are moving out of Luzerne County or leaving the state for good. After my schooling is done, count me into the second group. PA isn't even on my radar for a job. Especially not when my counselor tells me that job placement in my field (double major in Comp Sci and Network Admin) is 9-12 months. I'm not sure how that stacks up to the rest of the nation, but to me that seems pretty damn long. Although even if it weren't that long, I highly doubt I'd stay anyway. The city of Wilkes Barre needs WIFI like Hazleton needs a illegal alien ordinance. Spanish anyone !
A lot of people in the Wilkes Barre still have the coal mining mentality where getting drunk is more important then taking care of their kids.
Spend a full day, down at the Career Link in Wilkes Barre, and you will find people with no skills, no high school diploma, no work experience and some don't even speak english. A lot of them never sat in front of a computer before and have no experience typing on a keyboard. It's 2007 and they are not even part of the new global job market.
I moved into the Wilkes Barre area in 1998 from Connecticut and by the end of this year, I am history, never to come back to this s### hole state. I highly recommend that you do the same unless you want to work with the illegal aliens. --

2 edits | Hey wait a minute , I live in Wilkes Barre and I just recently read this article in the local newspaper.
I can tell you from living here, that Wilkes Barre can not support this kind of service because most of the people around here live just above the poverty level. In my opinion, the city should not be getting involved in wireless internet access.
Nobody is going to invest in this city when more and more people are moving out of Luzerne County or leaving the state for good.
The majority of the people in this area are elderly who don't want change and have no interest in WIFI internet.
This is just another pipe dream that the mayor has thought up to only benefit Wilkes University and Kings College. It won't benefit the Wilkes Barre taxpayer because like I already stated, most can't afford to pay for such a service.
It's like Tom Greco running fiber optic cables in steam pipes under the streets of Wilkes Barre. It's just not going to happen because they will spend months talking about it but nothing will ever come of it.
