| What do you mean, "at different times"?
Do you mean two shows starting at different times that overlap?
Do you mean something on analog and something on digital?
Are you getting a DVR or a regular digital set top?
With a few more details we can surely help. -- Black and Gold all the way. |

| There is a way to set a timer on the box so that the box tunes to the desired channel at the desired time. You would simply synchronize your VCR clock/timer with the box. Also you make sure your VCR is always set to record channel 3 or 4 (whichever your digital box runs on). Just ask your tech how to set that up.
If you have any Q's after the install, just come back here and let us know whether you have a motorola or scientific atlanta box. |

| reply to mark5019 Yes, due to you can only tape what channel the Box is set at. Only way around it, is to use those memory cells that are in your gray matter, and remember to set the box to the channel you want to record, so that the inboard VCR unit on your TV can record.
The best thing for you, is to get the DVR unit, due to VCR's are so yesterday. -- I threw out the map a long time ago. Now I follow my own direction! |

1 edit | reply to mark5019 My black Motorola box as a timer feature built into it which will change the boxes channel to the specified channel at whatever time your program starts. Basically, go into the guide, find the program to record, hit select, then select the 'R' icon which is for VCR recording. Then set your VCR's timer to record CH.3 (or CH.4 if you have it set that way) at the time you want.
You will not be able to watch a different channel while recording. . . |

| reply to mark5019 First I have no idea if the Comcast hardware supports this but you can always ask the tech and/or call Comcast to find out. Many cable boxes support what is called an IR Blaster which might make things easier. Simply put the box will have a port on the back called IR or Blaster and Comcast would provide the IR Blaster cable that would plus into this port on the digital box. The other end of this IR Blaster cable is simply put a remote sensor that will attach using the included sticky tape onto the remote sensor of your VCR (in your case your TV set's remote sensor).
What this will do is allow you to set the recording within the program guide in the digital box. So you would just leave the VCR off (ie not playing but with a blank tape) and the digital box will send the signal to the VCR to start recording when the show starts along with sending the stop signal when the show ends.
This setup would avoid needing to program the VCR. |

| Even with a TV/VCR combo you still must program the VCR to record a show. When I say program I mean setting the start and end times to record along with the date to record. If your going to use a digital box you will need todo both of these things below no matter what. I'll give an example below of a sample recording just to help.
Say you want to record a movie from HBO East (channel 301) on 4-30-2007 between 2am and 4am using a Comcast digital box (ie DCT-700) onto your VCR that is part of your TV set.
First you would program the VCR to record the show on 4-30-2007 with start and end times of 2am and 4am. This must be done with all VCRs unless they use vplus or whatever code thing they have.
Second you would need to schedule that program to record using the program guide on the Comcast digital box. Without doing this the VCR will only record the currently tuned channel of the comcast digital box. So this step is needed to tell the digital box you need to be tuned to a specific channel during a specific period of time.
So the IR Blaster would make things easier as it would only require the programming of the Comcast digital box as said above in the second step. So using an IR Blaster when the digital box program started (4-30-2007 at 2am) it would tune into channel 301 at 2am on 4-30-2007 and the box would send a signal via the IR Blaster to the VCR/TV combo to start recording. The signal is the same signal as if you pressed the "rec" button on the VCR itself.
So the IR Blaster works as if you on your own tuned into the proper channel and manually pressed the record button on the VCR...waited until the show was over and pressed the stop button manually on the VCR.
The end result is that all you must do is schedule the recording within the program guide on the Comcast digital cable box and sit back and relax and let it do its thing.
I hope I didn't make things too complex but I felt you needed to know this.
Now all of this doesn't apply if your not using a Comcast digital box. |

| reply to mark5019 Vcr? What I recommend is if you want to record things, you should look into getting a dvr(digital video recorder). It is usually around only 9 to 11 dollars extra a month. I haven't checked lately.
Look here for more information.
