Advertising only small part of Comcast revenue

»Comcast: The Pipe And The Content
Advertising represents just 10% of Comcast's revenues
That number is around 4.5%, not 10% based on 2007 1st qtr numbers.
Revenues:
Video $4,362
High-speed Internet 1,527
Phone 353
Advertising 313
Other 242
Franchise fees 201
Total Revenues $6,998
In any case, I agree with those that say Comcast should skip the web portal business. Others do it much better and providing their own is a waste of money.

Maybe they should skip the portal business, but if they do they start moving towards a dumb pipe provider.

I'm sure they scares their senior management.

Only a dumb pipe for Internet revenues. Most of their earnings still come from their video/TV business which is all content. So the dumb pipe argument only applies to a relatively small part of their total revenues.

For now at least....

We seem to be heading to an "on-demand" model which could dramticly reduce traditional advertising revenue. I suspect Comcast sees this coming as well.
