Disney Channel Horror: Customers Get Porn Instead

Comcast Apologizes, Plans To Get To Root Of Problem

Christine Sloan
Reporting

(CBS) LINCROFT, N.J. Many New Jersey residents watching the Disney Channel Tuesday morning were outraged after the family-friendly programming turned into a pornographic display.

Jennie Sherman still can't believe what happened while she was watching the show "Handy Manny" with her two twin sons.

"We were just sitting here and the screen just froze and then all of a sudden I saw very graphic pornography on the television and I scrambled to get the remote to shut it off," Sherman told CBS 2.

Sherman said she immediately recorded the X-rated graphic video on her DVR. She then e-mailed wcbstv.com to report the shocking news.

"Basically because I said my husband is not going to believe this," she said. "I was in shock, I pressed record and shut the television off."

Comcast spokesman Fred De'Andrea issued a statement regarding the incident:

At around 9:30 this morning we had an isolated issue in a local New Jersey Facility. We immediately detected the issue and it was corrected promptly...We apologize to any customer who experienced an issue this morning. We are continuing to investigate the root cause of the incident.

Comcast officials also point out this had nothing to do with the Disney Channel.

"If I was in the kitchen and not with them and this had happened, I would hit the roof I think," Sherman said.

Sherman said she contacted customer service at Comcast and they couldn't tell her if others had complained but they did credit her for a month but she said she is still afraid of turning on her television.

"I am definitely worried to put the Disney Channel on again (or) Comcast again," Sherman said.

Handy Mandy ?? Was she sure it wasn't Disney that was putting out the porn?

Wow, and she has kids. She's afraid of her television. She should save her fear until it happens a few times a month and not once in a blue moon.

10 years ago I would have thought this was funny. But I have two little ones now (5 & 7) and I just can't bring myself to laugh. (maybe smirk for half of a second)

Obviously, this wasn't intentional, but it's a tough PR clean -up.

Ha, I saw this report on WCBS. If they have the video up on the web site, check it out. The reporter, describing that the child saw porn, made it sound like three guys came in and shot everyone.

I don't have kids, so I can still laugh.

LOL the greatest part is that it probably was intentionally done by a disgruntled employee. Comcast would never admit to it I'm sure, so We'll never know but it would be so easy to do it's ridiculous. I used to joke about doing this very thing with other techs, it doesn't even have to be someone in the head end, it could be done anywhere on the line after the node and would affect whats downstream. EASY as cake to do take 2 minutes to set up after having access to the line. (this is assuming analog, digital is another story and would be tougher, probably needing to be done in the headend, there it would be simple though, basically as simple as changing a channel on tv, or you could do it with jumpers, etc, LOL I wish I still worked for comcast just so I could do a copycat of this)

Ahh...the magic word...worried. Sounds like a class action lawyer is near by.
I don't want to sound too skeptical, but I think a few hundred thousand for pain and suffering would be in order...to teach Comcast a lesson!

Hell, it's 2007 - people need to lighten up.

Her kids see a hell of alot worse things than 2 people screwing.

I love how people freak out over this stuff. Her son will be telling her to F off in a few years.

It still amazes me how things like this can occur. Well at least she got some compensation and her kids got an early lesson in Sex Education.

I've never seen this occur on my system.

...This sometimes happens on my system.. well, without the porn. Sometimes around 2:30am when I am watching a program it will freeze up and switch to some random infomercial. In a minute or so it switches back to the normal program.

Guess someone accidentally mixed the Playboy stream up with the Disney channel. It sure does not get more ironic than that!

I remember back when the Playboy Channel shared the same transponder as the Disney Channel on C-Band satellite. This was before they started scrambling channels and long before everything went digital. During the day F4 channel 2 (or 4, can't remember) was the Disney Channel. At 8pm they would shut off the Disney Channel and for about 10 minutes the Playboy bunny ears would come up. Then the same channel was playboy until about 4 am when it switched back to Disney.

All Comcast has to do is send out a refresh to her DVR and have it erase all programs.....

She first went to turn it off, then decided to record it to show her husband. Looks like she recorded it to show her husband how a real man gets the job done.

When I lived in Toronto, we had a channel devoted to the Toronto Stock Exchange. It was a more or less cable ticker, and a service called Voiceprint would be talking. At 8:00pm however The Movie Network (now Astral TV) would start brodcasting R rated and soft core porn movies. It was a shared channel and they ran a disclaimer at the bottom saying "this service is ONLY available between 6am-8pm daily. At 8pm the Movie Network 4 begins on this channel" (The movie Network was a pay-tv channel, which I had) Right up until 6am the next morning. This was in 1993 and 1994 by the way. Something like this doesn't surprise me but it's going a little overboard. Actually the FCC regulations regarding censorship is way too far. CRTC regulations state as long as you run the disclaimer you can't do much. Porn movies are available throughout the day, in Canada.

In Canada they air South Park at 4 or 6pm instead of 10pm. There is literally no broadcasting regulations up in Canada. It's even better in Quebec where they show nude almost pornographic music videos at 11am when kids are home on MusiquePlus. (another channel I got, and MusiquePlus was pay-tv as well) The only time the CRTC gets involved if it's really bad and even then they won't do a thing. They just tell you to get lost if you saw something offensive on TV.

The FCC is really a sham operation that should be overhauled for the 21st century. Right now bossy, bitchy parents, and the church run it. My wife was against my kids (13 and 15) watching South Park, but I told her all they have to do to see worse is walk out the front door.

I bet the kids said something closer to "Mommy, those people are wrestling naked like you and Daddy do every Friday Night when you think we are sleeping". LOL

Or even better.

She just wants money... Now days kids are put through a lot more from their parents than a porn will do..

Parents say: "That has traumatized my kids for life", but what about the time you yell at the kid..? What about the time you fought with your wife in front of the kids..? What about the time you snapped and your kid was there..?

Too much for nothing... Was it an unfortunate event.? Yes it was but it's not a big deal..

They are just drama queens..
