Whaaaa, whaaaaa.

quote:
The price of long-distance service is not regulated at the state or federal level, a policy intended to spur competition. Phone companies can charge customers a minimum fee for not using long-distance service.
You people demanded deregulation and you got it.

Ma Bell is dead and yet the people bitch.

Switch long-distance companies and quit your bitching.

this is very much like a MUG (Minimum Usage Guarantee), and if you go over the 40 minutes this $2 equates to you're fine. Verizon also gets something called a Prescubscribed Interexchange Carrier Charge (PICC)that is billed when you DO select an LD carrier which used to be $3.23 per line. Multiply this $2 by the number of customers x 12 months, and this is a HUGE profit center for VZ. They have to pay for that FIOS somehow. LOL.

Due to increased competition, VZ obviously feels the need to recoup some losses. $24 a year seems steep to me, and almost equates to an additional month of local basic service.

People will bitch even when faced with the facts. If you don't like Verizon's service switch. Long-distance is deregulated pick another carrier.

That is very typical of you. Yeah right, if you don't like it don't do it. Smart solution, that is, until everyone is doing it! That isn't the solution, and you know it. Verizon sets new trends, this needs to be nipped in the bud.

I grow weary of simple minded attitudes.

New trends?? I make perhaps 1 long-distance call a month. 15 years ago AT&T told me I would have to pay a minimum amount to keep their service; I dropped their service. What is the big deal? I grow weary of those that lack understanding.

They have to make up for the money they are losing on the much loved Fios rollout somehow.

Through mergers and acquisitions, she's BAAAACK.

Actually the AT&T name was never used. It was called the Bell System or The Phone Company.

The AT&T name was used post divestiture.

Yes AT&T was the holding company and the stock symbol was T. The new at&t is a Baby Bell that ate what was left of Ma. Verizon ate the cause of the mess MCI. Now Verizon and at&t are like families that respect each other's territory. Qwest is the runt of the litter that is kept in the attic.

Edit: It was called the Bell System after the founder of the company and inventor of the telephone.
