Repair backup sonar system?

My mom has a 2004 Nissan Quest and was rear-ended yesterday. The damage is mostly cosmetic except for one of the backup sensors is pushed in about 1 inch. I plan on taking the van to a body shop to check for hidden damage and a repair estimate but what about the backup system? It's hard to tell if that sensor is still working in some testing I did. I have made an appointment with the dealer to have it checked but if anyone has experience with repair/replacement of a backup system I would appreciate it. Can the computer diagnose the system? I'm sure it would at least need to be recalibrated.

Also, the woman who hit the car was begging us not to report it to her insurance, she was in an accident about 1 year ago and they may be a lawsuit involved. She claims she will pay for the repairs but I am skeptical about her ability to pay (especially if the sensor system is damaged) should we just go ahead and contact the insurance company?

Contact your insurance. If she's been in an accident last year she needs to learn a lesson.

Besides, if it was a 1972 Pinto or something I wouldn't worry too much about it, but it's a 2004. Report it. You probably have 7k dollars worth of hidden damage. It's what your paying insurance for, right?

Contact your insurance company, and process a claim.

agreed, process it, if anyone begs and makes a story, it means they don't know how to control their car.
