The man had removed the backpack from atop his car when it exploded shortly after 4 a.m. on the second floor of a parking behind the Luxor hotel-casino, said Officer Bill Cassell, a police spokesman.
The second person was taken to an area hospital.
Aerial video showed no apparent damage to the parking structure, where entrances were blocked while police, firefighters and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents investigated. No further information was immediately available.
The Luxor is a pyramid-shaped hotel at the south end of the wide road known as the Las Vegas Strip, which houses many of the city's hotels and casinos.

| reply to dogma said by dogma:Any local insight? Nothing more than what's being reported. It was on the local news at around 6:30 this morning as "breaking" and an explosion at the parking garage of the Luxor. No video or other info was available.
I suspect there will be some more on the noon news. As unusual as this is, it's bound to be reported nationally if not internationally in as much detail as it it locally for the next day or so.
If it's simple murder and not terrorism (I would think that terrorists would do more damage) then it will be old news quickly. Assuming it's murder, sounds like someone pissed off the wrong people. -- fnord )+( |

dogmaXYZPremium join:2002-08-15 Boulder City, NV kudos:1 | What I heard last night was it was not a "backpack" after all. But a "cup".
Seems like you are right, this was just what I call good 'ol, localized one-on-one American Terrorism. The kind we have always had in this country.
This poor victim winds up being one of the 18,000 or so that get killed here every year by other American terrorist. So no more news coverage.
That is all. |

| Pretty much. I didn't watch any local news yesterday, but today they reported the same thing about yesterday, increased security, analyze security tapes, etc. etc.
Apparently there were a few nervous moments at a casino where someone left an empty computer bag behind at the sports book. -- fnord )+( |
