| Re: Possible in a year or 2; not likely until 10 yrs from now 100mbps widely dispersed to the population would allow you to do all the things on the internet that you just can't do now. Multiple HD streams to multiple PC's in single households, Centralized data storage, and application loading, truly integrated communications networks so you can answer your cell phone on your TV, and unlock your front door from your car. Single points of contact, so if you want to call someone the network finds them and routes the call correctly. Appliances that can reorder supplies, or update your grocery lists while your shopping as your kids eat your food. Wouldn't it be great if everytime someone rang your doorbell or opened your door you could have a live feed sent to your TV or cell phone to see who is entering or exiting your house? Utility control so thermostats automatically adjust based on your location, and lights turn on and off when needed. How much closer towards energy independence could we be if the majority of people didn't have their furnace's/ACs blasting away when they're at work, or out to eat, or out at all?
"Who needs 100mbps" is frankly an ignorant question. | |
