said by gravesg  :now you know how reluctant data centers are on upgrading their network. although you do raise a point. how many of us would really need our server on 1Gbit ??? If you do alot of streaming audio at high quality bit rates, and you want to support lots of listeners, having a 1 gigabit per second connection would be useful. Also if you do lots of file transfer it'd be handy to have. A few data centers now offer 1GBPS, and though it won't be used much, for those that can use it, it will be handy for sure. A friend of mine has several internet radio stations and combined stream over 140mbps daily out his servers. What we really need is more upload at home, heck we've got plenty of download, now give us at least a solid 3mbps upstream! |
