ADSL2+

I have seen the list for deployments and naturally my city not on it
Any indications if & when it will be available in the Houston Tx. area?
I already have the 6/768 dry line thru Covad/Att,
but ready for more upload whenever possible.

As of right now, the Metro Houston area is not on the list as far as markets to be added.

So if you want a faster upload then 768k, you would need to look at SDSL, or T1 options.

Thanks for the reply, but I should have stated in my question......{"within my budget"}..... lol

UpDate, I got a call from a Covad rep Friday after doing a ck for the new service on their site. He insisted that as of the 15th they will offer the new service to me, I told him I didn't think so, not supposed to be in Houston area at this time. So, I finally told him if they could offer me the new service after it goes live on the 15th to give me a call
....probably some new guy in a call center with no clue as to where this is actually being deployed.

UpDate....I was right, he called back today. And my CO isn't on his list..lol

But I do have another question about the new service, will it have the same overhead problem that ADSL has? I have 6/768 package, and usually get 5.1/660 on speed test.

All forms of Internet access will have TCP overhead.

That's true, but seems to be different degrees. My DSL has allot more overhead than my old RoadRunner account had and yes I know distance plays a big role in all this for DSL. On the 8 /512 premium I usually got 7400 to 7500 down, & 460 up, but their constant outages, spikes & lack of any support finally drove me to DSL. Not like it makes any difference, it's not available to me anyway, I was just hoping the new technology would yield speeds closer the advertised speeds.

Cable providers will typically over provision your line. meaning if you have a 8.0 line, they may set it is 9.0 to account for the overhead. (those numbers are just samples, as I have no idea of exact figures other ISP's use)

I think Verizon is the only DSL provider to over provision a line for higher than the advertised rates.

TCP overhead will effect all forms of Internet access, as that is how the Internet works.
