| [WCG-UD] How to run the Agent On Vista.
Since the UD agent does not natively run correctly on Vista, a little wrangling needs to be done to get it to run correctly.
Install the agent to a location outside of the default C:\Program Files\ directory like c:\World Community Grid\. I have been installing to the Public built into vista C:\Users\Public\World Community Grid\ .
After running the installer, navigate to the directory you just installed the program to. Right click on UD.exe and select properties. In the properties screen, select the Compatibility tab. Put a check mark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and click apply.
Reboot Your computer and login. Allow in Windows defender if you are prompted for that. UD agent should now be running.
Occasionally the startup shortcut does not get made. If it has not for you, navigate back to the install directory again and right click on UD.EXE and select Create shortcut. Now copy the shortcut to C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\. You will get prompted by UAC for admin approval. Go ahead and allow it. Upon reboot, you should now have it running when you login.
Up next, running it as a service in Vista. -- Team Discovery Project Hope |

| When it loads after reboot, yea you have to allow it. Just like that Mac commercial.
I have an old beta version of vista on a machine that I experiment with. It doesn't score well with vista so I won't buy it.
Probably go back to windows 2000 on it.. -- »www.menofart.com |

1 edit | OK, that is what I thought. Just an FYI, if you set anything to "run as Administrator" you are going to get that from Defender. Defender, by design, has an issue with anything that tries to run with administrator rights so I would recommend not using that setting unless you plan on using taskmanager to load it as a service.
edit - Or don't mind having to allow it each time on load in Defender. -- Team Discovery Project Hope |
