| Yah I am not a big fan of the whole Theater experience. I would rather watch it in the comforts of my own home with my HDTV and surround sound. $30-$50 is kind of steep though! It would only be worth it if it was a group. -- Wildblue Pro Pack / Beam 40 / Laredo NOC / Windows MCE SP2 |

The Magic of over priced tickets, Cell phone yapers, and just plain lousy movies has keep me out of the Theaters for years now. I just wait until the very occasional decent movie comes out on DVD. Rent it and I'm done. I don't care what Comcast or the Theaters do at this point. -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well. |

| reply to Mactron Don't forget the ads that lead make the main attraction 15 minutes less. And the ad-placement in the movie (though I don't see the discount on the ticket). Or the crappy food (and high prices). Or that someone has actually lit a cigarette (yeah, they do this). Wow, I just heard a beer bottle clink under the seats... And lastly, those that think it is ok to bring an infant to a theater (Get a freakin sitter or stay the eff home)! (Which I blame the management for not enforcing theater policy). ...
Oh, if I "have" to see a movie, a group of us get lit (wee bit drunk) and hobble over to the theater (next to the bar-restaurant...so no driving) and watch the last evening showing. Barely 20 people in the place, and we have a great time. Restaurant (UNO) honor movie tickets for discounted meals... And still cheaper than Comcastic's plan. |

Well, at the cost of $30 or more per movie, you might as well go out and get your $8 popcorn. Correct. If you aren't spending money one place you are spending it in another. Lets say it costs $40 to watch it at home in this example.
If you go to the theater, you are spending $12 a ticket to watch Spiderman 3 in the Imax. Then you have a combo large popcorn and 2 pops for $10. Thats $34 right there. Then you have gas to and from the theater plus time in line and the drive there. The advantage is that you get to see it in the Imax, and no screen at home can capture the magic like that. Nor the sound system for that matter.
The dark horse is the crowd. Even watching Spiderman 3 in the Imax, there were no issues with talking or cell phone yapping. I have had issues with that in the past, but those are very rare. When I do hit a problem like that, a simple conversation with the manager gets me a couple free movie passes OR a nice well written letter does the same thing.
Really, there is no savings other than the convenience factor. Would this be popular? Who knows. -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |

I just wait until the very occasional decent movie comes out on DVD. Rent it and I'm done. I don't care what Comcast or the Theaters do at this point. I totally agree. I have'nt set foot in a movie "theater" since the late 90's, and I only went about 5 times in the 5 or so years prior. Movies these days are TERRIBLE. The theaters are always freezing, the floors are sticky, and the people are offensive. I remember once about 10 or 15 years ago a "gentlemen" I was sitting next to kept whipping out his gun to show to his buddy sitting next to him! 99.999% of movies released since the late 80's have been terrible. Once Hollywood discovered the "magic" of computer aided special effects pretty much everything went downhill. I dont care if they spend $20m on a simulated shot of an exploding boat, it will never look as real as an actual full scale film of a real boat being blown up. CGI is so cheesy it makes everything look like a cartoon. I miss real movies with real, live actors who performed dangerous stunts on their own. I miss real animals and real explosions in movies. Most of all, I miss real interesting stories that make you want to continue watching the film and not turn it off in disgust.
The way I look at it, there hasnt been a single movie ever released that I needed to see it in the theaters. I figure that by the time it comes to VOD (I dont even do DVD any more!) if I still want to see it then I will. I think allowing on-demand viewing of new releases is a good idea. Not necessarily for me, but for the millions of other people who must hate the "magic" of the "movie going experience" as much as I do. -- я люблю Денди! |

Imax movie size: 72.6 x 52.8 ft I did a search on movie theater screen sizes and they are a little more than 1/2 of the Imax size, but they vary from one theater to another.
I think that 40% bigger is more than just slightly larger. -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |

I have to drive 20 miles just to go to a regular theater. The nearest one is 100 miles away and there are 3 Imax theaters in my whole state. Hell even a state like Florida which is the 4th largest in the USA only has 9. |
