I guess if you go by yourself(who does that?) then it's expensive but compare it to going with 3-4 people and it's about the same price. The only thing good about the theatre is the sound can be cranked up without your neighbours bitching. Film in the theatres is always dirty and shaky. |

| I think it could also depend on the movie. I bet for major released like Spider Man, Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars, this could have drawn a large market. Go to a buddies house with a nice system and chip in $5, plus chips and drinks (reasonably priced) it could be worth it. |

Personally, I view it as a time to see something I really wanted to see and get into and not have to socialize with someone else while it's playing.
The ONLY time I go is during the week for an early afternoon matinee because generally, just a few of us have the whole theater to ourselves as well. Not to mention it costs less as well.
And, I agree with the poster above who say's you'll never get the same experience at home.
Although I have an awesome video setup at home..(samsung HDTV and 5 speaker Bose 901 audio)..it's just not the same as the movie theater experience.
The popcorn tastes better..the atmosphere is in place.. the size of the theater..bigger..and during the day..it's all ours. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

I've gone to the movies alone many times as well. Most people see it as being a loser, but I don't put much stock in other people's judgements. Since you can't exactly hold a conversation during a movie it's not exactly a social experience. So if the movie's good enough and nobody else is down I'm game for a solo viewing. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter

| reply to Rick said by Rick :The popcorn tastes better.. Here's how you too can have movie-theatre quality popcorn at home:
•pop favorite brand of popcorn (something generic/cheap is recommended) •place popped kernels in an clear-plastic garbage bag •allow to sit for three days until slightly stale •cover with a cheap brand of light-weight motor oil •salt to taste -- Everyday, thousands of new cars are delivered to their new owners with poorly-selected radio station presets. |
