| Maybe if going to the movies wasn't so expensive...
Currently going to the movies costs about $10 a ticket plus if you get food that's around $10 for a popcorn/soda combo. So for a familiy of 4, assuming only 2 popcorns/sodas, that comes out to be $60 to go see a flick. That is ridiculous and it makes $30-$50 a movie seem like a bargain. In my area, matinées are $8 which is still pretty expensive. It wasn't long ago when they were about $5 and food was about 2/3 the cost it is now.
Maybe if the theaters didn't charge so much they would be better able to compete and wouldn't have to worry about this.
Also it's not like the theater is any better. When I went to see Spiderman the day it was released, the film already had "worn spots". Until theaters switch to digital projectors, that will be a problem.
Still I think this won't be as bad as they make it out to be. There are still movies that "need to be seen in the theater" (unless you somehow managed to get a 50 foot screen in your house). Also it doesn't mention whether or not Comcast will stream the films in HD or not, but if it isn't it is probably better going to the theater anyway. --
