First off, no home theater can rival 35mm film projection in a modern theater. Film offers around 4x the resolution of HDTV.
It will be decades before consumers have anything close to true film quality in their living rooms.
Nothing beats film, not yet at least. |

3 edits | You're assuming you get the sweet spot and aren't too high, low, right or left. There is nothing great about 4X the resolution and a headache. Plus resolution is relative to screen size and angle of field. To have comparable DPI it would take way more than 4X the resolution to rival a decent size home theater. This is assuming that you would get a 1080P HD version of the movie from the cable or DBS operator. For $30-$50 I would accept nothing less and join your "SD resolution sucks" camp. |

Then you start to get the lovely wear effects. The scratches, the scribbles, the dots. Not to mention the lovely "change reel" blobs and associate flash.
Screw that. Give me digital.
