I've yet to see anything for home use that looks like a theater (well how can it, there's no way to buy something with the same resolution as 70mm film projection) unless you're talking about some insane private screening room. But most people don't have that. |

But most people don't have that. The theater near me, and that's 20 miles, maybe has 40 foot wide screen in the "big" theater. In the other 4 they're maybe about 25. Most home theater sound systems sound better than the sound system at the theater near me. |

| reply to sporkme What a load of crap. I can tell you're a "film purist" that will never believe a better medium could possibly ever exist. Soft edges? Scratches on the film? The possibility of the platter doing a brain wrap in the middle of a film? No thanks. I'll take digital over it any day of the week.
Oh... and in regards to your "65 foot screen over 65-inch screen any day" comment: As Einstein said, everything is relative. Sitting six to eight feet in front of a 65 inch TV is no different than sitting 20 - 30 feet away from a 65 foot screen. In fact, most DECENT home theater systems rival even the best theaters -- and the fact that you don't have to deal with people who won't STFU the entire movie (the kind of people I usually end up winging an entire handful of Skittles at after telling them to be quiet three times) and even you can understand why movie theaters are going under.
EDIT: In fact, as a former movie theater employee, I can tell you that the main problem is the fact that most modern day "parents" think the movie theater is their own personal babysitter. Unfortunately for the rest of us, they neglected to teach their kids proper movie theater etiquette and manners (read: STFU). |
