| FIOS in Central DC?
Has anyone heard any word on FIOS being made available in central Wash DC? One has to wonder if Verizon realizes how much damage they are doing to themselves by ignoring this particular city center. I have sat in meetings with folks seeking restrictions on VZ "redlining" where policy staff volunteer the fact that they are still unable to get the service because they live in DC - it makes them much more credulous about what is being asked. They can sign up many more customers for the same length of cable than they can in the suburbs and most of the central city is higher income than parts of the suburbs that have been wired for more than a year. It makes it easy to believe that VZ is staying out just so that they don't have to wire the adjoining lower income parts of the city. |

| actually, my point was that may of them don't. Actually, many of the staff and polticians don't - the lobbyiest often do. It's a trademark of professional staff, once you sell out and take the job with riaa or pharma accounts that you have to move to VA or Bethesda. The majority of members either own or rent in the city proper, for the House guys, usually on the Hill, and a goodly chunk of the upper level staff (whom I am referring to in the original post) still live in condos in the downtown part of the city or cap hill/logan/dupont town houses. Either way, I know a good number of folks who laugh off VZs claim of not redlining in their quest for franchise reform - it certainly doesn't help their cause. |
