Have comcast check it out...

Our comcast internet used to disconnect all of the time (and we even had to be a cable booster for our cable in the basement so the signal would be strong enough for the router to pick up) and finally it just would not work, so we called comcast. They came out and checked outside at the telephone pole, and it turns out the one of the cable parts out there had been leaky and had gotten water in it, which was why our internet was always disconnecting... they fixed that, and it has been great ever since.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dmzy. The situation seems to have improved somewhat. Others in my area have had this same issue, so it isn't an issue unique to me. I do appreciate the suggestion, and I'll keep it in mind when I have problems in the future.
