Hilarious Double Standard.

I think its awesome that when its cable that does it by contractor they are evil and stupid and negligent.. However when the second coming that is VZ FIOS does it, more then anyone apparently, the article is peppered with "Hey, no biggie, it happens. "

quote:
You can't make a $23 billion fiber optic omelet without breaking some eggs..

quote:
usually dealing with inaccurate city maps..

quote:
Sarasota County said the mistakes were getting better, but there were still issues. "To put the damage to sewer and water lines into perspective, excavation usually leads to about 10 cut sewer and water lines in a four-month period. Verizon has cut 19 times that many since Oct. 1,"[/quote[
Mistakes are getting better but they are 19x the norm? Thats better?
quote:
While Verizon is doing a much better job -- especially considering the scale of the project -- there's still some mishaps occurring.
They are doing a better job considering the scale? What does that even mean? They are building out plant. Everyone does it, not everyone does it at 19x the damages.

Sometimes decent bandwidth comes at a price.
Yeah, god bless em!
Haha, even the comments are forgiving and "Ah Well.." "Those pesky contractors!"

Im all for "shit happens" but next time cable comes into an unfortunate mishap, which most likely will include some of the same contractors, lets spread a little of that forgiveness gravy around. Or at the very least keep the reporting SLIGHTLY unbiased...

Always good for a laugh! Thanks all!!!

I HATE Comcast. But to keep the peace in my house (my kids getting to watch their cartoons, wife gets to watch her programs) I am stuck with the ONLY game in town (ATM). I have no problem bashing Comcast, its employees, its management or its shareholders.

If Verizon wants to bury fiber on my property, the day they show up to start working, they will noticed that I will have already trenched for them (by hand, no less) for free.

so let me get this straight. Its cool for verizon to tear up gas lines, power lines and what else but not for comcast?

Just because verizon is running fiber and has fios doesn't make them an angel remember there still a telco and the only thing they really care about is you paying your bill every month and if you don't think the service will have rate hikes, bad customer service and everything else your in your own world.

I don't reply to these often and I think both Verizon and Comcast have their good points. But the bias is so apparent it is laughable.

Lovely. A Renaissance Man.
Trust me - Comcast won't miss you.

Ah ha... but when I convince my entire neighborhood to switch to FIOS when it rolls out... Comcast will miss me.

And there are incentives for me to convince people away from anything Comcast, to anything else.

and I suppose your some kind of almighty salesmen? Trust me guy people won't just switch over because its fiber most consumers could care less what there media comes over.

and I am not pro comcast I just have more common sense to think just because some telco is running fiber that doesn't make them the final solution.

When was the last utility plant that you saw being rebuilt from the ground up through established neighborhoods? Me personally, I've never seen it (although I do admit I'm only 28). I don't think anyone can say 19x the damage isn't a problem. But it's also not a fair comparison to just say it's just like every other build out either.

I think Verizon should be held at the same responsibility as every other utility. If Verizon* cut a line that was properly marked, they need to pay the repair bills or other costs associated with the disrupted service. If someone else improperly or failed to marked a line and Verizon* cut something, then it's not Verizon's fault per se and responsibility falls back on the cut utility or the marking company.
