I am done with DSL technology, I am looking at alternatives such as cable, fiber, or even wireless at this time.

If a storm comes along and hits the wire my DSL modem gets fried. The same could more than likely apply with cable. Wireless seems the best alternative I am looking at right now, since I have a laptop, during a storm I simply disconnect the power output even if I do have a UPS installed.

I am sick of losing equipment during lightening storms and I had to have truck loads once to switch my pair, another after doing an MLT and switched the line shelf card at the CO.

DSL can no longer compete in the near future.

If lighting or thunderstorms fry your DSL modem every time, you have bigger problems than your DSL connect. Does your domicile not have a common ground bolted to the water meter?

If the property were properly grounded it would likely not fry your modem every time.
